Hes played 39 nhl games.
Not sure hes earned regular top 6 forward yet. - Fakepartofme
Well that's the thing about projections ....what is he? what is he most likely based on what we have seen/know?
Most have him in the top6 ...certainly top9. How much does it cost to replace that with a UFA? RFA's are a nice asset b/c they're $$ is arbitrarily kept low.
Leafs need a few of these low cost RFA's to go with all the high priced talent.

A big move coming?
Joe bowen thinks so.

Makes you wonder...
Jumbo signing here at the end of his career, most guys of his ilk do that to WIN a Cup. Our roster right now looks alright but Cup Winner??? Not so sure.
Before signing Jumbo, you have to think Kyle pitched him a plan. Maybe the plan isn't finished yet because I find it hard to believe Joe thinks the Leafs adding Brodie, Bogo and Simmonds pushes us over the top.
Maybe Bowen is onto something!?!?? |

how do you see Weegar vs Holl? they seem to compare pretty close.
I think the pendulum has swung a little to far on weegar now and Leafs fans are over rating him a bit. - senstroll

I wouldn't mind him on the team, but I am not sure you are gaining much if you are trading Holl.
You need a lot of NHL dmen over the course of a season.

Hold an irrational grudge against Dubas.
No, seriously - that's what I've been doing for about two years. - Atomic Wedgie
Dunno who decided on not picking him and trading the pick. But it was poopy.
What can you do |

Top 9 for sure....maybe even top 6 in time. Dunno.
For me, we can afford to overpay rfa's or anyone outside of our core. Squeeze them for all you can until the cap starts going up. |

So, Dubas saying that he thinks they are done now, is just to throw people off?
I don't know, I think he's done until the trade deadline. |

Yep the grass isn’t always greener
I think a lot of the reason fans want change(not all) is they get bored of the current lineup and want that new feeling again. That endorphin release when they see a trade by their own team.
GMs don’t think that way. |

Maybe not... Getting someone like Weegar, allows the team to move players to more comfortable spots.. (ie; Holl not in the top 4) |

I would imagine he sold them on being 4th liners and that the big 4 can get it done. |

I look at it this way:
I’m not sure earning is the way they can afford to look at it. There’s one spot left in the top 6. I don’t see how they can bring someone new in and the only other person I think who has the skill and legs (ie isn’t really old) who could play there has played even fewer games than him. |

But they can’t add Weegar
They have to subtract 3.5 M to add Weegar
They don’t get better
I think Dubas is comfortable with his top 3 and likes the potential of Lehtonen, Dermott or Holl filling that 4th spot.
If not the TDL will only be 20-25 games into the season. |

There's a lot of people who don't like Holl very much. I'm not one of them. I like his success story, and I generally like how he plays. If he stayed I would certainly not be upset.
That said, Weegar is statistically better than Holl in pretty much every area.
https://public.tableau.co...y_count=y&:showVizHome=no
If Florida is willing to trade him, then we should be in on that conversation. I doubt the conversation is continuing since I think Johnsson was a big part of the conversation.
My point is that Weegar is better than Holl. Both have decent partners (Muzzin/Ekblad) and both have played against tough competition, and while it would appear that perhaps Holl has had tougher minutes on average, Weegar has vastly outperformed Holl.

If only there was a centre making $3.5 on a team that has 5 (6 if you insist on counting Nylander) |

That's the crux of it. That 2W spot is either for Mikheyev, Kerfoot or Robertson. If Kerfoot is still the 3C, then it's a tighter horse race. Given the number of players signed, it seems almost preposterous to anoint Robertson the 2W - especially since backchecking is such a crucial part of what Mikheyev brings, and while I don't know much about Robertson, I know from what little I have seen that it's hard to backcheck when you've been knocked on your ass in the offensive zone. |

Other than TBL, how often is the Cup winner the overwhelmingly obvious pick.
Also, maybe Leafs were only team with a shot that wanted him.
Also, also maybe there was a bit of ..... what’s that word ..... oh yeah, dementia. I hear that sometimes happens to older people. |

Actually 3.5M would be our highest paid centre since Suzuki and KK are so cheap.
