If Laf is on the first line, are you moving Kreider to the third line?
- airjan23

Thats what I would do. Cause Buch would be useless there. I think Kreider would be better in that spot

I still don't get the faceoff infatuation so i am staying out of this argument.

Give me the player who can drive play and put up points, if he can't win faceoffs i will live with it

- TPC

Because faceoff win % is directly proportional to goals scored, or in a PK situation clearing the defensive zone.

Remember Hayes was so awful at FO and that was such an issue Ranger fdans would female dog about endlessly. He was better than Zib this year on FO. Who would you rather have?
- mdw7413

1. All the centers on the Flyers have excellent FO%, someone over there really knows what theyre doing in teaching faceoffs.
2. Hayes being 3-4% better than Zib (where the best faceoff guys are at about 58-59%) is not the same as Zib being 11% better than Chytil.

You missed the point, you guys act like Chytil cant get better at FO yet Hayes who everyone said the same thing and female doged and moaned about got better.

meh its nice but if it comes down to picking 2 players to sign I am not going to pick someone based off of faceoffs

Sure he can, and this year I believe is going to be the litmus test to see if hes been working on his deficiencies.

However, faceoffs is just a marginal part about why Im not in love with Chytil.

For the PP maybe less so important, but for the PK its crucial to have someone good in the dot because you dont want to be giving up possession with a man down.

His first game, first line. Hell, I let him take the opening face off. Realistically, I think he bounces between first and second - not depending on his productivity, but more his comfort level. He doesn't need the pressure cooker right away. He needs to play with skill around him, not just buried on the 3rd or 4th lines.

Face off % will improve with experience. Guaranteed the top face off guys have all played 5+ seasons

https://puckbase.com/stats/faceoff-percentage

I believe Matthews is the outlier

Chytill's face off performance isn't the issue; his consistency and strength on the puck is main concerns. He, and Howden both need to cement their places in NHL this season or they need to go.

These damn 21 and 22 year olds not living up to expectations already! How dare they! Get rid of them now, why wait for them to develop even though most their age are in the AHL still. F them, let’s go sign some 35 year olds!!!!!

absolutely, or trying him at right wing

which again, when you also consider Gauthier, leads us back to the Jesper Fast thing, where once again the people who complained about him not being re-signed were thinking with their hearts not with their heads.

Everyone is always so hot to trade off our young players, only to watch them crush it elsewhere. Cytill is so young. Hopefully, this year he stays consistent and Howden plays like he did in play in series

This is a point Ive made in previous posts and totally agree. Faceoffs is just a very small part of it. Hes a big kid who plays very small. I reiterate that this third year will be telling of whether hes getting better or if weve seen what kind of player he will be.

Chytil is not untouchable

he's definitely somebody who could be moved in the right deal, but not someone that we should just get rid of

if he can put it all together this season that would be a great thing, especially since he was of the guys on an entry level deal with very little bonus money

So, with regard to the Tampa Bay cap situation. When does it need to be resolved? Can they stretch it out until seasons start?

I don’t love the term, but if Tampa ate half of Johnson’s money, should the Rangers be interested? Is he a true 2nd line center?

I don't think they can afford to eat half and even if they did I would shy away from that scenario.

Tampa can be 10% above the salary cap until the season starts

I don't want Johnson, he's just be in the way at his age and term, kind of like Jesper Fast would just have been in the way

I want nothing to do with Johnson. If he was a FA, on a 1y or 2y deal for the 3C spot on the cheap, sure Id give it a whirl. But not the way it is.

Ever play the Doc Drinking Game?
When watching a game with your buddies, each of you pick a word or phrase like Waffleboarded, Skittered, GOT THE GLASS WITH THE SHOT, etc and take a drink for each time it's said.
