Best thing about living in NZ (besides being COVID free again, going to concerts, sporting events, restaurants etc.) is not being inundated with US/Trump news on the daily.
As a polisci major, I loved that poop as a kid.
As an old man (41 yesterday), I love the silence.

JB was approached by LV after Tanev walked. All that idiot had to do was say yes.
- VanHockeyGuy

Well, who really knows whom approached whom and when the seeds for the deal were planted?
I'm going with JB let it be known what he was after early on, and jumped when the opportunity presented.

Hard to think that VGK would choose to help a divisional rival otherwise and not call Florida for example.

Other teams were trying to grease him for a salary dump sweetener. Benning said "sure, I'll help you out of a bind". Done deal.

Totally. Ignore the fact other GM’s said they would beat it. Irrelevant

It's clear that this trade landed in Benning's lap.
Just focus on the MTA's.

Here's the thing Gaudette might be the cheapest add for value so trading him is less likely.
- NuckUp

Of course so a dump like Sutter, Benn or Roussel would have to be included or you’d have to include Virtanen but at that point you’re losing a lot of secondary scoring

LV Knew what JB was looking for and knew he would make the trade. Why spend weeks negotiating with other GM's while AP also talks to other teams about signing. They had an opportunity to have it done right away and they took it. Do you think AP was going to sit around for an extra week or two while LV worked the phones to get a better deal on Schmidt? I personally doubt it.

There was so much hyperbole going on about JB before the trade. No surprise these are the same people who are pushing the "it was all luck" narrative. The local panic peddlers on SN650 and TSN1040 who were the loudest switched to the Benning luck story immediately after the trade. A whole lot of face saving noise going on now.

Common sense says JB had many balls in the air before free agency even opened. Sometimes missing a ball or two leads to a better pitch and a home run. Well done JB.

Schmidt's new number is 88. Gaudette taking something else... probably Tanev's 8.

The same with Nonis on the Luongo deal, just imagine if he was out for a second lunch and missed the call from Keenan.

Yes, and if JB held out for a 4th instead of a 3rd he loses the player. However at least it would fuel one of your other narratives. Which is also fun
