Ovechkin is not going to the KHL, Ek. He can play as long as Jagr did and he can break the goal scoring record doing it, so why wouldn't he? - 3rd GM's the charm
I don't think he would go to the KHL either, but you never know with the Russians. You do have to keep in mind though that he is currently 35, in the final year of his contract, and great goal scorer aside he's a one-dimensional player. I'm not sure what kind of contract that lands. He would still have to score 40+ goals in each of the next 4.5 seasons just to catch Gretzky.

I think Buffalo's intentions are very clear here. At the trade deadline Buffalo can trade Hall at a pro rated 50% of salary. Makes Hall a 4m player to any team wishing to trade for him. Thats a bargain for any team with the room and a 1st round pick plus prospects. Add in the fact Buffalo will likely eat 50% of the deal that makes Taylor Hall a 2m player at the deadline. Every single team in the league just about can afford that. Buffalo is trying to keep Eichel, sure, but they are trying to do it by continuing to build and just paid 8m for someones 1st rounder and B level prospect. Thats the move. |

I really thought there was some substance to the Hall to Colorado rumour if he was taking a 1 year deal. I guess the money was more important than winning. |

quote=PT21]Here is the issue, my man. I am saying this for the 10th time here and in response to various well-meaning PMs. But that's ok. I understand what you are saying, and I acknowledge its validity.
I do not find discussions about Covid to be political. In this particular case, 60 mins was on the same channel as the Dallas game. That was it, really. Directly related to hockey? No. But neither are the Eagles.
You will never catch me here arguing abortion. Or low versus high taxes. Or supreme court nominees. That is indeed ideological, and political.
But there are things going on today in this country that transcend the political. They may be occurring in a political realm, but they concern competence and misinformation, not ideology.
Vast chunks of the social forums are segmented by education, by class, by age. Often, people dismiss others are as not worth engaging with, and just retreat to their respective shelters. This has happened here as well, and even in the hockey realm.
What that creates, in my opinion, is simply an illusion that all versions of reality are equally valid. There is a vacuum, people say stuff, and to each his own. This creates a false equality which I feel is dangerous.
A year ago, I did take the rather inconvenient and painful personal decision to engage in forums I am already on. I expend significant personal effort in this direction. I try hard to appeal to people's logical and higher senses. Of course, I do not always succeed, sometimes because of my own faults. I have a short temper and a sharp tongue, which are failings.
I do so knowing 98% of people will be unconvinced or unswayed and will resent it. Trust me, its not fun. I have far better things to do. I do not need self-importance in this forum.
Many will rightly be critical for derailing hockey discussions (I am not sure you have noticed, but I never post asides at times when discussions are flowing nowadays, and usually do so late in the day). Many will reject such rationalizations as well, and find me with a superiority complex, and I am actually pretty sympathetic to such perspectives as well.
But I have to do it for the remaining 2%, who might be persuaded by my sudden breaking off the implicit rules that there is something going on beyond politics now in this country. Even if they don't read my posts, actually take note of my bloody minded insistence: Why does this educated dude expend so much energy on this? Why does he care so much?
Call it, if you like, acts of Hockeybuzz civil disobedience. Or call it the act of a misguided self-importance fool. Perhaps both.
Is that a honest enough explanation? if not, I suggest you engage in the painful process of reading it again. Chances are, your objections have been answered.

Hall is very overrated. I liken him a lot to Duchene and they would be my 1/2 as well. He's good player but not great. Can't wait to see what the overpay for him is at the trade deadline. |
