It's early in the off season with months to go. You're worrying that they didnt make the OEL deal and wouldnt match 4 year term on Tanev? That seems to contradict what you were saying just a couple of days ago before free agency opened.

Money would have to come off the books to bring OEL here...

It’s not a good situation back there with Edler and Tanev gone, perhaps Tryamkin coming back might be needed.

It’s disappointing hearing them say the “D” is their number one priority and it’s much worse than last year thus far and very little money to spend to help.

- Pacificgem

Yes, that'd been quite annoying, their focus to fix the D hasn't resolved anything.

I think adding Tryamkin is sort of what JB is moving towards. He's a big body, mobile D.

Not adding Demko was the deal breaker so I assume a salary dump was agreed on(Sutter prob).

Cap friendly shows 33.1M in 21/22 to sign Demko, Hughes, Pettersson, Virtanen, Guadette, Benn, Edler, Tanev, Stetcher, Pearson and Sutter or replacements compared to who played this season.
- belcherbd

I don't think that's right, who's coming off the books next season besides Baer, Spooner, Edler, Benn, Pearson and Scraps?

Yeah, it's not accurate for whatever reason, but if it is, then we've got magic bean money to spend! 😆

It’s a year away but seeing Edler on a team friendly deal and Tryamkin back for 2021/22 seems likely at this point. Nothing of note really in the pipeline.

Lol, if he's signed it doesn't increase the available cap to 26.3 does it? No, that number is already set at 23.3.

Which leaves 3.3m after the big 3.
If virt is signed for 3m this season, yup that comes off, but doesn't add anything to the available cap because it's already set at 23.3 without him.

We haven't been talking about CAP. We've been talking about the player contracts coming off the books. That's not the same as cap space – it just adds to the cap space. Right now, the Canucks have roughly 8 mill in cap space. Without any more signings, the Canucks would have 31.3 in cap space NEXT YEAR (this years cap space PLUS the money coming off the books next year).

- Sutter @ 4.3
- Pearson @ 3.7
- Sven @ 3.3
- Edler @ 6
- Benn @ 2
- Spooner @ 1
- Demko, Petey, Hughs @ 1 each

we both agreed that NEXT YEAR those would be coming off. THAT ADDS TO THE CAP SPACE AVAILABLE. If we sign JV this year, and he's on the cap this year just like all those players, if we trade him we add him to that list of money COMING OFF THE BOOKS.

If Ferland can't play, we get another 3.5 mil in cap space. That will help the D.
- NewYorkNuck

Forgot to mention, you don’t get 3.5 million relief unless you’re at the cap max.

That's probably the plan. He has progressed faster than Demko. Leaves OHL with all time win record... has a good rookie year as a 20 year old in the AHL. Looks like he is a couple years ahead of where Demko was at same age.

They have space but just not a tonne. I think 20 is a safe guess for Hughes, Petey and Demko.

13M to sign 2 top 6 wingers, 2 top 4 D and depth.

Here's hoping someone pulls a Niskanen and at least a few of Woo, Rathbone, Podzolkin, Hoglander and Joulevi hit their ceiling right away.

Bold take, I haven't seen anyone suggest he is ahead of Demko at that stage. I doubt he is more than a journeyman.

I don't know about ceiling but he has shown faster progression since their drafts.

Worst signing yet. Marky will sink Calgary in a few years. That Barrie signing however was a gem for the Oilers

For such a tight knit close group ready to win seems like no one wants to stay ...thought the window was supposed to be open .....looks like everyone is just walking out the door instead

It's not all doom and gloom like some say it is.

If they splurge and move LE, that's 19 mil. Virt, Hog, Podk can all fill out that depth (assuming JV is on the team still). Basically need a top 2 D and top 6 winger for roughly 10-12 mill?

Reminds me a lot of Jonathan Quick – smaller but agile and a human highlight reel. Not sure he'll ever hit that level, though.

Love DiPietro’s fire, he’s a gamer. They both played their first year in the AHL at 20 years old and had very similar numbers .908 vs .907 SV% although Demko played about ten more games.

Demko proved he was just too good for the American League the next year though, which the Canucks actually said, and brought him up to stay.
