the last 2 days are the canucks fan base to a fcuking T.

nothing happens = sky is falling
good trade = benning is the bestest gm ever; we're contenders again!!!!!!

to both sides, take it down a fcuking notch. the team is still taking a step back next season. the cap is still an issue and will take another season (at least) to correct.

Who’s the better GM?

Tanev and a third for Schmidt

Or

Schmidt for Pietrangelo and a third

Oh, just in case simple Jack sees this

Ferland is done. I don’t really get how this isn’t just an obvious fact
- neem55

I give it less than a month and he’ll be on the sidelines again. At some point your long-term health has to be more important than playing the game of hockey. If the Canucks are at the cap max they can go over by his 3.5 million, if they’re not at the max I believe it’s graduated so they won’t get the full relief.

Probably. It's too bad it didn't work out but all parties will be better off if he stays on LTIR. Use that $ wisely.

Gaudette wears #88...Schmidt is gonna have to change numbers, my guess is he takes Tanev’s old #8 as Donnie would say on the radio.
- Pacificgem

Gaudette wore #8 in college. Id imagine he goes back to that leaving Schmidt in the clear to take it. No idea what tryamkin will do though (I dont think hell actually be back)

Holtby is gonna have to change as well, Pearson wears #70, it’s like a rebirth for these guys

He’d cost a boatload to acquire.

With what's going on with hockey these days, anything can happen. Unlikely, yes.

Canucks couldn’t afford his salary anyways, he’s probably gonna want between 5-6 million a year having scored 30+ goals two of the last three years.

Im suprised Pearson is never brought up in the media for a trade. Then again could probably sign the good Granlund for cheaper

It's an obvious fact to most, except for him. Unless the Canucks come out and Malhotra him, they're going to have to fit him under the cap to start the season because he's doing everything in his power to play again.

Ya im sure he’ll take 2 mil per. Valuation is just silly. Jake +++ and we dint have the cap. Although he’s only going to play 30 games, so maybe we do.

IMO - Linden for Bertuzzi, McCabe & Ruutu is the best trade in Canucks history as it had the biggest positive ramifications.
- Pacificgem

That tree had a long lasting impact for sure. I'm just saying that taken the pure trade of it and the impact of those players on this franchise, not all the subsequent trades that happened after, I would rank the Sedins #1.

True, winging it.

LISTEN
@patersonjeff
: I like Schmidt the player, and he'll help the #Canucks, but this couldn't have been a part of Jim Benning's plan

if jb can pick up granlund for cheap then id feel much better about some of his choices. they need a winger capable of playing top 6 outside of miller/boeser...

If it wasn’t part of the plan then why/how did it happen?! Does he somehow not get credit for this deal as well with Paterson just full donkey

Schmidt replaces Tanev and adds 1.5M. It was a good trade, I'm happy it wasn't a 2nd round pick.

The D still needs work though, once/if that's sorted there's less pressure on the goalies.

- VanHockeyGuy

Tbh to make myself feel better I’m pretending we traded Madden and a 2nd for Schmidt & the 2022 3rd to rent Toffoli.

I think there was a bunch of reports about 10 hours prior to the trade saying it appears JB has no plan and is just out to lunch. Appears van media doubling down on said narrative.

WTF.....sorry this is garbage, just because you haven’t won a Cup doesn’t mean you can’t make a good or bad trade. This is far from the best Canucks trade, but it’s definitely a good one!
- Pacificgem

I never said it wasn't a good trade, I just say you can't call it the BEST or GREATEST trade (capitalized for emphasis) unless it brings you a Cup. You can call certain trades franchise defining because they set the team up for a generation/window like the Linden for Bertuzzi trade tree, or the '99 draft day deal that brought the Sedins to Vancouver, but I don't believe any deal can be called the best or greatest in history of the franchise unless a Cup is won because of it is all.
