It's not the best trade in franchise history, until we win a Cup, no trade is the best/greatest. We have franchise defining ones like Tiger for Rick Vaive or Ronning, Momesso, Courtnall and Dirk for Garth Butcher and Dan Quinn or the whole Linden for Bertuzzi trade tree that just now ended with Markstrom signing with Calgary. Thing is, even all those trades still haven't won us a Stanley Cup, and until they do, we have no real BEST or GREATEST trade in history or GM for that matter IMHO.

Gaudette wears #88...Schmidt is gonna have to change numbers, my guess is he takes Tanev’s old #8 as Donnie would say on the radio.

I expect Schmidt to be with Edler on the top pairing, but I also expect to see the top 4 defensemen playing about 23 minutes each.

Im with codes, highly unlikely they play myers/hughes together imo. Edler makes much more sense with myers given myers inabilities in his own end. Schmidt/hughes makes much more sense imo.

WTF.....sorry this is garbage, just because you haven’t won a Cup doesn’t mean you can’t make a good or bad trade. This is far from the best Canucks trade, but it’s definitely a good one!

Our bottom six forwards still suck, nothings changed there, our top six forwards took a step back with no money to sign Toffoli, our goaltending is weaker but could level out if Demko can play lights out and the defence still needs improvement even with the addition of Schmidt and the lose of Tanev and Stetcher.

There’s roughly 2 million dollars left with Virtanen and Gaudette yet to sign, something’s gotta give still. I don’t think the Canucks are in a position to take a major step forward and be a top 10 team, in fact I think they’ll take a step back if things remain the same. Which is fine, as long as the focus on the draft and developing players.

Other than that there is no indication of a step backward. We just got better by losing Stecher/Tanev and gaining Schmidt. And we won both PO rounds without TT lol. Our bottom 6 is slower yes but still very capable as the PO's showed. We will be around that 15-16 spot moving up a bit from 20-21 where we were. Bubble team? maybe. But there is no indication we will drop 4-5 spots in the standings. Schmidt is just the start of Benning's master plan.

Schmidt replaces Tanev and adds 1.5M. It was a good trade, I'm happy it wasn't a 2nd round pick.

The D still needs work though, once/if that's sorted there's less pressure on the goalies.

Edler's contract is done after this year. No need to move him right now – he has a year left in the tank to shelter OJ/Rathbone from the tougher minutes.

This trade reminds me a lot of the Erhoff trade. Fantastic steal, but not the franchise best. Naslund would be up there for me, but number one would probably be the trades made to land the Sedins.

Agree and gaining Schmidt will also reduce the shots against. Which is something Marky never really got here. Schmidt adds 10-12 more points than Tanev and can play both ends consistently. It really is a steal by JB. But he had to do something lol. He aint done yet.

Juolevi as a third pairing guy is already imho better than Stecher so hopefully he can earn that spot in camp. Truthfully I don’t think they really have any other choice.

Yeah I expect that as well. No point in putting Hughes and Schmidt together. Need to spread that kind of mobility throughout your d-core. End of the game sure I could see Hughes and Schmidt together if the Canucks need to push for a goal.

Would love to see the Canucks somehow clear enough cap space to sign Hamonic, or he decides to come here on a 1 year discount for the chance to play with Hughes to increase his value for next year.

Edler-Schmidt
Hughes-Hamonic
Rathbone/Joulevi - Myers

Goal would be to rotate Rathbone and Joulevi in to ease them in. If it's Rathbone I like the mobility and size on each of the pairings

What you posted is a very capable NHL defense.

IMO - Linden for Bertuzzi, McCabe & Ruutu is the best trade in Canucks history as it had the biggest positive ramifications.

Ideally you don't want to throw unproven kids to the wolves like that. Hopefully they find a way to add another D to bridge that gap.
