Throwing Rathbone and/or OJ into the deep-end might be a better development outcome if there's no other professional league available because of changing circumstances.

Gonna need some Calder Trophy performances from some young defensemen if the Canucks live up to certain top ten predictions next season

OJ is ready for 3rd pair minutes with Rathbone maybe platooning in & out of the line up. Training camp will more interesting than normal.

Has there ever been a team that finished with all the top choices for rookies?

Hoglander, OJ, and Rathbone finishing 1-2-3 in voting

Pair each rookie D with a vet. Keep the minutes reasonable and prevent injuries by overplaying some of the vets.

From what I found, only schedule A bonuses apply to the cap, so EP + QH bonuses are 1.7 in total.

I can't assume their value, but you can? Where are you getting their market value from? What comparables in a flat salary cap are there at the moment?

7 + 7 + 3 = 17, not 20.

How am I adding 5 new players, and a goalie? You're making this hard to follow. We need to replace, from my list, Sutter, Pearson, Edler, and Benn. We have Demko and Holtby signed through that season.

So if you're going to make asinine comments, at least make sure you actually do the math properly

I can see OJ with Myers...Olli plays a smart steady defensive game (at least in Utica, when not injured!) which might be a good complement to Myers who likes to rush & pinch.

Not sure how Hughes & Benn would work out...going to be in tough against a strong forecheck.

who plays PK? (Edler, Myers <- PK1 and Olli, Benn <- PK2??)

QH on PP1 and Myers on PP2

Replace tanev with an older guy that plays even less games than tanev. Hell of a player, can’t see pens moving him or the point in a young team trading fir him.
- neem55

Letang might not be the best option but injuries might be ok this year if looking for low pressure opportunities to get young guys some playing time.

I don't think it really matters if that is the lineup we roll out.

I think Luc Robitaille and Jimmy Carson finished #1 & #3 for Los Angeles in 1987, probably as close as you’re gonna get.

Ya, I don't think the Canucks will have any Calder finalists for a few years, unless someone comes here a really surprises.

Sorry for interrupting the circle jerk but....

So many mistakes, assumptions and asinine comments to respond to and so little time.

I Forgot Holtby was for one more year, so that's only 4 players for the 3.3m, not including Virtanen.

Cap friendly lists the bonuses as 2.8m each, half of them are cap free, which leads to a total of 2.8m total, sorry I rounded up, but let's call it 2.8m.

17m plus 2.8 is 19.8m not 20m, sorry my mistake.... that .2 could be used to sign an established player.

You're dreaming of you believe that they'll sign for less then what Nylander got, they're probably going to get Marner money at least. Much more likely that they'll get around 8.5 each or more. If they sign for anything more then 14m combined(again dreaming, that number is so low), we will have even less money to fill out the roster.

I wrote including a goalie, not plus a goalie.

We do not have Demko signed for 21-22, his contract expires after this upcoming seasons.

TLDR
Unless a miracle happens, the 12m 4th line plus luongo will handicap the team until they're off the books after the 21-22 season.

The art of war says to prepare for the worst and hope for the best, you're preparing for the best and hoping for the best.

And have Peterson and Hughes sign remarkably under valued contracts to even think about competing in free agency the following year...
