We are taking a huge step back next year imo. We need to get rid of these crap contracts Benning has handed out. Now he could have signed a good one and he lets them walk. What the hell is his plan? Just hope the young guys succeed right away?

The character guys will step up. You know the ones that get 1 mil per goal.

The Canadiens have agreed to terms with forward Tyler Toffoli on a four-year contract (until 2023-24). The deal has an average annual value of $4.25 million.

I tend to give JB the benefit of the doubt, but fuuuucckkkkk that. That’s a great contract. Could have easily fit under the cap. Back on the fire JB train

I could have lived with this, the tanev and holtby contracts no problem. Seattle is going to be open for business In terms of taking contracts for picks. Couple of teams are. More tricky but still doable

JB is getting ripped way more than MG did before he got canned. What an unmitigated disaster this management team is.

Whoa. Good contract. Pathetic that we weren’t able to match that after what we gave up to acquire him.
- DrChristianTroy

I do wonder if Toffoli was interested in being matched, but it doesn’t look great

(frank)ing idiot running our franchise, 4.25 mil for a guys prime years...smh. I'd rather sign him to play defence than see what JB will do next..
- pker2theend

I’m starting to think the Canucks just don’t have $$$$.

Thank god Miller still has a contract otherwise he'd be gone too..

I wonder how negatively this is impacting our young core.

Four departures (Markstrom, Tanev, Stecher and Toffoli) all well-liked & respected by the players, only slightly mitigated by Holtby coming in. Other than Markstrom, none of the prices paid were high or unmanageable (in isolation)...could leave a bitter taste.

He probably would’ve signed 4x4 here and he didn’t even get a limited NTC, that’s a solid contract.

Anyone that thinks this is a playoff team as it stands, is simply a fool.

Edit: Anyone that also thinks JB won't trade our 1st rounder, is simply a fool.

It's clear now Benning just wanted to get rid of Madden & the 2nd round pick.

It affects everyone in the core. Pettersson told Jim he liked Toffoli and wanted him back (remember how upset Petey was when Benning traded Dahlen), Hughes really leaned on Tanev off the ice, Boeser and Stecher are best friends, and Horvat has to drag around Pearson and Loui for another season

I'm not letting Benning off with the Covid-19 or flat cap excuse. He created this mess way before the pandemic. Where the Canucks are right now is a direct result of his incompetence. Fuking idiot.

Yeah. This one sucks to let get away.

Markstroms new contact was expensive and too long. No problem letting him walk. Especially with the Holtby deal.

With Tanev, it was time for him to go given age and term he got.

Stetcher was got for cheap, but again you can understand moving on, under the condition that mgmt replaces him with an upgrade...(still waiting)

Toffoli is hard to rationalize.

one last (frank) you to Brackett on the way out the door

I think it’s clear that ownership isn’t letting him sign most players for more than 1 or 2 years. I doubt Benning himself has gone from being the guy known around the league for always giving UFA’s that extra year/NTC/500K to suddenly only offering 1-2 year contracts to quality UFA’s.

Im fine with this roster, as long as he keeps Vans first, not even close to a playoff team, which means go into the draft with a high pick and a new gm.

In what world could we not match that or pay a bit more ouch

Ferland is the cherry on top of having no money

- Jkuzzi

Next season is the problem... we should have signed him and traded Boeser for a RHD

If the team struggles during the season and he trades picks/prospects for a rental or 2 then even Benning fans will turn on him

We’ll see though, I’m still expecting a move here to add a RHD
