I don’t know I can’t see it. I think signing Schneider is for the reasons I stated or I should say I at least hope they are. I’m not a huge fan of Varlamov as you know but if the plan is to trade him because lameriello is unable to free up cap space I think we’re in pretty big trouble next season. Hope I’m right.

If the Islanders go out and sign another goaltender then maybe they're trading Varly, but until then I don't see this as anything other than filling the AHL spot that was open from Gibson signing with Tampa.

Yes, I agree tough going into the season with a goalie tandem of Schneider and Sorokin, however you have to think they think the kids ready or this is as you said season suicide.

We don’t know if it is true but if it is Sorokin may want to go back to Russia because he came here because of Varlamov

I just don’t see Schneider signing with the Isles to play with BP. Not at 34 years old after a great career in the NHL as a starter. He just doesn’t need to do this at this point in his career. Just my opinion.

The Canadiens have agreed to terms with forward Tyler Toffoli on a four-year contract (until 2023-24). The deal has an average annual value of $4.25 million.

Nice signing for the Habs. Actually took a bit of a pay cut from his last contract.

Don’t think it would be tough to sign an AHL goaltender but I’ll maintain my position and hope we’re both right

I’m sorry

Do you think Schneider is looking to play in the AHL? If he is signed you gotta think trading Varly is an option.
Gotta believe there are many capable goalies to sign as your #3 goalie to play in the AHL. Aaron Dell who was the Sharks backup was one mentioned for this position by Staple.

Well Schneider played more games in the AHL than the NHL last year, so I think we have our AHL goaltender. He's played 39 NHL games combined in the last two seasons and hasn't posted a sv% higher than .908 since the 2015-16 season. In fact, his NHL sv% has gone down every year from then until now. I don't think anyone is entrusting a guaranteed NHL job to him anytime soon.

This very well maybe true, however in the same breath he isn’t looking to Sign a contract to play in the AHL Imho.

Fair, just think he’s beyond that. If he does than I’ll take him.

I think you’re both wrong. I think Lameriello is going to trade Sorokin for Jack Johnson to replace Pulock after not having the money to sign him. The rangers will then trade Georgiev to the hurricanes for an unprotected first that will win the lottery in the next draft imo.

Well I watched him play quite a bit here in bingo so I'm pretty sure he knows that's where he's going (the ahl) if sorokin has issues or isn't handling the smaller ice well and has to go to the ahl then you have a proven vet ready to step in but Cory is a sound tiger.

Also you're an idiot so STFU

Cory Schneider was the latest free-agent netminder to find a new home Monday in what was somewhat unexpected.

The New York Islanders are signing the 34-year-old veteran, and while there’s the obvious Devils connection between Islanders GM Lou Lamoriello and Schneider, I think the signing still caught some people off guard.

The reason Thomas Greiss went to the market and left the Isles was to make room for the arrival of Ilya Sorokin behind Semyon Varlamov.

So two thoughts here, either this signing means Schneider understands he may have to play AHL hockey, or the Isles think the 25-year-old Sorokin needs some time in the AHL for a little bit.

Both may end up being true.

Either way, I also think this is about Lamoriello wanting to help Schneider re-start his career after being bought out by the Devils last week. There’s a real personal connection here and I love when we see that in the game. It’s not just a business. People matter.

I believe this is well-established.

However, you guys are missing the most obvious explanation. Lou is getting old. Schneider is a washed up back-up goalie. He's gonna be our next GM. It's the Islander career path.

I finally got settled on why we signed Schneider and you have to throw this out there.
