I agree, Lou sleeping on the job again. If he’s even working.

If he’s even still breathing he’s quite old.

Hearing that the Islanders are finalizing a deal with UFA netminder Cory Schneider. There's the obvious connection there between Schneider and Isles GM Lou Lamoriello. Happy to see Schneider, 34, get a chance to continue his career. One of the good guys in the game.

See? Now that we replaced Chris Gibson we'll be good to move forward

This has to mean we are still talking about trading Varly.

I can't imagine they'd do that. Schneider is either headed straight to Bridgeport or they'll keep Schneider around for a month or so and let Sorokin get his feet wet in the AHL before calling him up. But Schneider can't be in the NHL long-term.

If they traded Varlamov and went into the season with a guy with zero NHL games and a goalie held together by Elmer's glue and toothpicks....that would be an abject disaster.

Pretty doubtful. That would be season suicide

On the #Isles all-time goalie lists, Thomas Greiss is 5th in wins (101), 5th in appearances (193) and 1st in save percentage (.915, min. 50 games).

Not bad for a guy who arrived to be a 25-game a season backup in 2015. Greiss signed with Detroit today for 2 years/$3.6m AAV.

truly amazing how underrated Greiss was on Isles.

The goaltending coaches can't fix the jumbled mess of dried out rubber bands that hold Schneider together

Who plays when Schneider inevitably gets injured? Jakub Skarek? They'd have to sign another goaltender. Have to imagine Varly isn't dying to waive his full NTC either.

Schneider’s health and maintaining it have nothing to do with goalie coaches. Also, his time clearly has passed unfortunately I agree with chiefs on this he may be a stop gap for Sorokin to get adjusted to the NHL game then he’ll be holding down the fort in Bridgeport unless there’s an injury with the big club. In no scenario can I see Schneider being a regular with the Islanders unless there were injuries...

Maybe your fair haired Russian wonder has been working with Korn and they have determined that Sorokin is ready? I know your knowledge of hockey is second to none but I doubt The Islanders Staff and management would trade Varlamov if it hasn’t discussed the ability of Sorokin and Schneider to perform up to NHL standards if in fact they do trade Varly. As you said they wouldn’t go into the season if in fact there is no confidence in this duo.

Trading Varly to clear cap space would have to be a last ditch effort. I have to imagine it would be easier to trade (and lose) someone like Toews than inheriting a tremendous amount of risk in goal. They can afford to lose a piece on the blueline, not so much in net.

I still don't see them doing very much, in terms of bringing in outside help. Seems more likely that Ladd goes to Robidas Island to me.

Yes, which would have been covered under the part where I said Schneider would be "headed straight to Bridgeport". I see your reading comprehension is also second to none.

Why would we do that we obviously do not have any Cap issues?

If they see fit to trade Varly, Which is what the discussion was about then Schneider will be with the Islanders and not BP.

No reason signing Schneider if your not trading Varly. Lets stay on point.

Not sure whether it was a two way contract or not but you don’t think it’s probable he’s a stop gap for Sorokin and will then trade places with Sorokin in Bridgeport? You agree with niteislander and think Varlamov is being traded?

Why would Varly want to waive his NTC? Unless he knows that Sorokin is ready to take the number one job from him?

I’m thinking that since Sorokin has been here and working with the staff they have been impressed. Now putting that together with talk of signing Schneider there is no sense to do that unless in fact they are exploring trading Varly. I don’t know that this will be done but his value is high and they do need to reduce their Cap. Just sending Ladd to Robidas Islander isn’t going to be enough imho.
Again not saying Varly gets traded but I also don’t think this move is even discussed if The staff doesn’t feel they (Sorokin and Schneider) can do the job. That was/is my point on this rumor of The Islanders talking to Schneider.
I have to admit when I saw the first rumor of the Islanders looking to move Varly I laughed at it, but where there’s smoke.....

Edit: have to think Schneider won’t sign a 2 way contract imho, again if this rumor is even true.

I don’t know I can’t see it. I think signing Schneider is for the reasons I stated or I should say I at least hope they are. I’m not a huge fan of Varlamov as you know but if the plan is to trade him because lameriello is unable to free up cap space I think we’re in pretty big trouble next season. Hope I’m right.
