Ottawa trades 2021 4th rounder to Nashville for Austin watson.😳😳

Big 4th line PK player, I’m indifferent on this move. Sens twitter up in arms again though, Trevor Shackles is getting to be one of the whiniest Sens fans on the internet, he’s unreadable, I had to unfollow him.

Little surprised Dorion brought in a guy with such off ice issues considering the "culture / character" viewpoint he seems to have been cultivating.

Seems like his issues are largely behind him, with him making every effort to be a better person......from what I read anyways

I'm seeing that too. I hope for his and his gf's case they both do so, even beyond the hockey side of things.

But this will be a controversial decision. Something Dorion has tried so hard to avoid in recent years,

Funny how things turn. Sens fans pretty happy. Leaf fans dealing with another loser season. Chuckled when I read this tweet from Steve Simmons:

An agent on the Maple Leafs. “They’re the first team I can think of to sell off roster pieces before winning a single playoff round.”

This is what Pierre Dorion believes.

He wants a team that is going to be able to handle the rough going. The Sens are going to be very hard to play against.

I like all the move Dorion has made.

I find 2 things puzzling...

1 - Why trade away a 4th round pick to bring in Watson when you just signed Logan Shaw? Those two are essentially the exact same player. Watson being a bit better of a player overall perhaps.

2 - Why trade away a 5th round pick to bring in Gudbranson when you just spent a 4th rounder to bring in Josh Brown? Again, they are essentially the exact same player.

Is this a case of, "I like him so much, I want TWO of him!"? I'm not entirely convinced this is good asset management. Surely the Watson and Gudbranson trades address issues that may have been solvable via free agency?? I don't necessarily dislike the moves, it's just a bit odd to me.

Negativity aside, I can promise you one thing....
Drake Batherson RW 6'3"
Austin Watson RW 6'4"
Logan Shaw RW 6'3"
Josh Brown RD 6'5"
Erik Gudbranson RD 6'5"
.... left wingers all over the league are gonna hate seeing Ottawa's name on their schedule.

I'm not sure why Dorion is suddenly getting trade happy with his draft picks. I'm not a huge fan of using a pick to bring Watson in. I know it's only a 4th but some of the prospects this team brags about were taking the 4th round (Batherson). Gudbransson you can probably move at the deadline to regain a pick, but not sure Watson fits in that mould or Josh Brown, for that matter.

Dorion is making this a big tough team that people won't push around, however, I never thought of this team as getting pushed around when watching last year. They just sucked and got scored on a lot. Sort of a different thing.

I think they’re bringing in the toughness because they plan on having lots of rookies in the lineup and don’t want teams taking liberties. They lost boro, likely not re-signing Sabourin, they need some toughness in the lineup.

As long as the kids get spots in the top 3 lines and top 2 pairs, I’m not all that concerned about who Dorion brings in th okay 4th line and bottom pairing.

A question for you guys: Where do you see, or WANT, BrÀnnström fitting in next season?

Chabot - Zaitsev
BrÀnnström - Brown
Wolanin - Gudbranson
Reilly

Maybe
Chabot - Zaitsev
Wolanin - BrÀnnström
Reilly - Gudbranson/Brown

Does anyone know the status of Zub? Is he playing in Russia? Is he eligible to play in Belleville? I kinda don't trust Russian players, I fear if he's assigned to the AHL, he'll just F off back to Russia anyways. And I don't know enough about him to know if I care. Lol

I don’t want zaitsev anywhere near Chabot.....would rather have brown or Gudbrandson up there.

Assuming Stuzle takes one year before playing in the NHL

Tkachuk White Brown
Norris Brown Batherson
Formenton Tierny Abromov
Paul Anisimov Watson
Balcers

Too many rookies for the lineup? I feel like Dorion isn't done trade wise, and I wouldn't be surprised if Formenton spent another year in the AHL to really develop his scoring touch.

Yes. I think something like this is a very realistic estimation for the forward group. There are obviously many different line combinations to explore. But the forwards, as you have them, are exactly what I also have penned in. Time will tell if Dorion will make any more moves to bolster the forward ranks, but as our roster exists right now, it's hard to argue against you. My only change would be Balcers over Abramov. But that could easily change with a strong training camp by the latter.

Like I said in reply to David's post, this definitely should be what we're looking at. I don't necessarily agree with your line combos, but those should definitely be the names on the roster on opening night (barring any more additions between now and then).

My only real questions are regarding the D corps.

Chabot Gudbranson
X Zaitsev
X J. Brown

Wolanin, Reilly, BrÀnnström...

1 - Does anyone know about any official updates on Wolanin's health status? And since he hasn't played in so long, might he need seasoning in Belleville?

2 - If BrÀnnström isn't "good enough" yet to play in the top-four this year, is he better off in Belleville, rather than playing sheltered minutes on the third pair with some limited PP time?

So in a hypothetical situation were Wolanin isn't "ready" physically and/or mentally, to play on the big squad, and BrÀnnström also starts the season fine-tuning things in the AHL, what are we left with?

Chabot Gudbranson
Reilly Zaitsev
Englund Brown
Jaros

That's basically 5 or 6 third-pairing/seventh D men. That's concerning to me.

Thoughts?

With Logan brown being a defensive liability having Paul and C.Brown playing wings he wouldn’t need to worry as much cause they both are great defensive players 😉

wolanin was on tsn radio recently and said he feels 100% so thats good.

my main concern with our d is who plays top RD with chabot.

We know zaitsev can't handle it, so between
Brown/Gudbranson? doubtful jaros/lassi are ready either.

Really like that signing for Buffalo.

Excited to see what Eichel can do with a legit winger for once.

Good news for my fantasy team too.
