Replacement level generally refers to ability to positively impact 5-on-5 play relative to your team at a sufficient rate to be worth paying above 1mil. Turris hasn't done that in Nashville despite pretty easy minutes.

That sounds like a definition based in fantasy land. At the very least it sounds like an unreasonable expectation for a GM on free agency day.

If you average the contracts of all players who are above avg 5-on-5 on their team (and you control for blue chips on ELCs) the avg salary would be waaaaaay more than 1M. So I don't see how that is relevant at all.

Word is also that back in 2018, Draisaitl pitched Kahun to the Oilers as a guy he felt they should sign

I'm not demanding above average. I'm saying proximity to average relative to payment above 1mil. Plenty of cheaper players keep things relatively close while Turris has not to put it bluntly.

Of the 248 Cs who played more than 500 minutes over the past 2 years, Turris ranks 225th in relGF%, 197th in relHDCF%, and 242nd in relHDGF% while playing comfy ~62% off. zone FOs while playing 22% of his minutes against top opposition (below 25% is where I'd say you're sheltered).

I like that he has some offensive skill and is a talented playmaker, but Holland is very clearly making a bet that these results are a product of a poor fit in Nashville and not a complete collapse of his play. I hope it pays off because I really do like the idea of 3 scoring lines.

Anton Forsberg to the Oilers, too, apparently.

Okay, that sounds a lot more reasonable, albeit not as definitive. Those numbers you posted definitely don't sound promising. I just think that at 1.65Mx2 it's a relatively low risk bet on a guy for 3C who is only 31 and only 2-3 years off being seen as a quality 2C.

Would Spezza be a better choice for 3C?

Haven't checked into Spezza's details but at league minimum, probably. My preference was sticking to the defensive 3rd line for this year given who's available. If I was gonna sign a softer minutes 3C, I'd have gone for Wallmakr due to age.

It's gotta be. He mentioned he'd be signing a 3rd string goalie.

Wennberg at 2.25M over Turris at 1.65M?

It's not a huge edge, but I'd probably take him if only for the 1-year. I think Turris brings the higher potential for a "boom" but also runs the risk of being a bigger deficit.

Happy with that personally.

I actually think adding Ennis, Pulju and Turris for under 4M next season is pretty good so far.

That is a 3rd line making less than Kris Russell.

It's fair to presume that the plan is to build a 3rd line with offense this year and that this was part of the pitch to get Puljujarvi to come back. Even if he doesn't make it with McDavid, he's well set-up to score with two 30-40 point players in Ennis and Turris on that 3rd line.

It's possible that Jesse's supposed excitement about PKing afforded Holland the thought that he'd have enough guys for PK duty even after sacrificing in defensive ability.

Benning to Nashville for 1mil for 2 years. They did well with him and Boro really securing their D depth which was lacking for them last year.

Sad to see Benning go. He was a good Oiler.

6mil for 6 years for Markstrom in Calgary it appears. Glad the Oilers took a pass on that one.

Seems pretty good to me relative to the Matt Murray extension.
