My plan:

G: Kuemper, trade Thompson + Prospect, net salary in 2=3.5M, bury Hutton
RW: Sign Toffoli ($5m) or Dadonov ($4.5m)
C/RW: Sign Craig Smith ($4m)
LHD: Sign Erik Gustaffson ($3.5m). Trade Miller or Montour for picks/prospect to offset cap hit.

Oloffson eichel Reinhart
Skinner Staal Toffoli/Dadonov
Mitts/Rieder Smith Cozens
Girgensons Lazar Okposo

Dahlin Risto/Joker
Gustaffson Risto/Joker
McCabe Montour/Miller

Kuemper
Ullmark

After Signing our RFA our cap would be around $75m, below the ceiling

Thoughts?

Swap Casey for Thompson. I have more faith in Thompson right now.

It’s a better team but still don’t think it’s enough to make much noise. However the goaltending Upgrade might be enough to make the playoffs.

The gif never went through, because the KIM PHONE wasn't charged over night , the power on the Yacht wasn't working, cause they gave Girgs that big raise and couldn't afford the electrician.

What are you thinking broads? Whats your new team?

The leafs , the bolts? Maybe rebuild on the Detroit train?

Vancouver has your big bird meyers?

Wait and see where kahun lands?

Broads is now a free agent fan. Imagine the teams fighting over broads in free agency.

What fan base wouldnt want a crybaby , turn coat?

The Sabres.

And I’ll point out their ineptness until they are actually good.

Do you get Christmas cards from the Pegula’s? Do they give you a fake gift like making a donation to the Human Fund?

Right. I thought by now 30 other teams would be drooling and throwing money at him, as some have said. Maybe he's not worth as much as some fans think?
- LandlordTom

I’m just glad they jumped on signing girgs. He would’ve been snatched up instantly if he had hit the open market. We really got lucky there.

They do that I’ll be pleasantly surprised

I dont think I said one thing about Kahun.

I'm flummoxed that they signed the lesser Larry for some completely unknown reason. He's not tuff, the PK sucks. He's bad and the contract is bad and you should feel bad about your bad opinion

So since this is a hockey board and I’m clearly not happy about what has happened so far here is why:

Yes the Sabres do need to be tougher to play against. Not just hard on pucks and such but physical with other teams. Buuuuuut what good teams do is build their team with skill players throughout their lineup and THEN add those grinder type players. They also don’t overpay them.

If you don’t like Kahun I can live with that. It’s not that they let him walk (even though that’s not great asset management) it’s that they paid Girgensons $2.2 million for 3 years when teams are signing those depth role players for well under $2 million and only for 1 year deals.

It shows that even though they’re trying to keep it lean they’re still wrong with how their doing it.

- Stripes77

Good post.

I can agree with that.

The idea of Girgensons is fine (because let's face it, the biggest problem over the past few years has been the middle six), but not at that cost.

That being said, I don't think Girgs contract is hindering them from doing more. If they choose not to do any more, that's on the owners.

I DO, however, take issue with some of the posts in here that are saying we're worse. We are not worse, and just the trade of Staal makes that a fact.

Are we better? There are a ton of question marks (Tage, Mitts, Cozens) and some holes in the lineup, but I still think those holes get filled.

Just my 2 cents.

(now everyone go get (frank)ING LAID, you clearly need it 😂)

we have done nothing but swap johansson for a cheaper older player in stall for 2 months

Girgensons sucks.

Larsson drove that line.

Girgensons is a 1-1.3 mil replacement level player that they overpaid by a mil AND GAVE TERM TO???

- sbroads24

Still scratching my head with the Girg’s signing combined with NOT qualifying Kahun.

Kind of feeling like this is it. Here’s your 2021 Buffalo Sabres !

Nah, it’s over another GM having 0 clue what he’s doing.

That’s what they get for hiring an assistant To the regional manager from the Pepsi center

- sbroads24

Again this is a discussion:

I like tage at 1.4
I like stahl for Johansson
I like girgs for $530,000 less than the average nhl salary
I did not like kahun, nor think he's the answer
I like lazar

5/5 for Adam's as far as I'm concerned.

He’s being overpaid by about $400K per. And they JUMPED at signing him.

Same old same old.

Last time Girgs scored 10 goals was 6 years ago...when he play 6:00 more of ice-time on their top line. He upped his play in a contract year this year So Adam's decides to give a fat contract to a 4th line player with a year term rather than a 1 year deal to entice another "contract" year out of him.

Adams gives him a 37% raise, overpaying with term...but balks at spending the same amount as the overpayment on a better player who can play 3 positions.

The absurdity of this signing is simply outstanding.

- IonSabres

All cities are not equal free agent destinations.

Believe it or not, signing a guy that likes buffalo is probably hard to find? Buffatax.

2.2 million is not a issue for this franchise

9 million for skinner is a problem. 2 more goals last year than girgs.

So with the internal cap set between $70-75 million, and them currently sitting at $53 million, you're still dying on the hill that they're done?

They're not done.
