I’m not gonna hammer him too hard for this, but these moves routinely end up being bad ideas.

If he moved to 11 like he was trying, he would’ve ended up sending 37 and 38 to someone to get back into the first to draft a guy who was taken 34th. It’s usually bad value and the draft is an absolute crapshoot past the top 10-15 guys.

Use all your picks and try and hit the lottery

I mean there's a significant difference between an early second rounder and a fifth round pick, especially if you are just talking about a solid NHL player.. Yeah, hitting those fifth rounders feel great, but if you feel a guy is available and will be at the very least a serviceable NHL talent, isn't trading a fifth rounder who will more likely than not not even be an AHL contributor worth it? To me, it's no question, at least he went for it.

I’d have liked to get him here,
but that’s too long of a contract for a goalie turning 31 to start next season

i have no problem trading up for the 34th pick as JJ was ranked in the 20s by most people. I question Hughes over Rossi, etc - seems like a "I'm smarter than you type of pick." I like Hughes and hope he's great, just hoping we didn't overthink the pick??

Very true, and what I heard yesterday a Goalie and 2 forwards where on the list, hopefully Tobias wasn't included on that list.

I’m really not expecting much,
and that’s probably a good thing

Now isn’t the time to be overpaying UFAs

I've made peace with it. I was a staunch if Rossi is there, don't overthink it. Maybe they did. That said, Jack Quinn Hughes is going to be a solid player for us, and if his work ethic continues, we will have a real winner on our hands. Comparing him to Rossi for his hole career will be a mistake. I just want a solid competitor that can score goals and help us win games. And he does do that.

The bad thing is failing to realize lost value

Adams thought he was a first rounder, tried getting into the first (meaning he offered other teams more than the 4th rounder he did trade) for a guy who potentially could’ve been there at 38.

It’s a 4th rounder, no big deal, but it very well could’ve been a future 2nd rounder or more if he ended up in the 20’s to take him
