When Staal hits 50 points playing with Skinner and Cozens, I fully expect he'll re-up for another year.

The synergy on line one is going to be off the charts. The synergy brothers just became triplets

- jcragcrumple

My guess is they have side deals with Staal and Hall.

With the expansion draft they need players on one year deals.

They do well and get into the playoffs, I fully expect both to be resigned the moment the expansion draft is over.

I’d bet they do the same with Sam and Dahlin.

Actually, it’s SMART, not “sad”

U think a prospect should come in & be playing tough defensive assignments against other teams’ top lines on a nightly basis?
That’s a recipe for disaster

- jdfitz77

The fact that we struggle to develop bottom 6 players is sad, no matter how you try to spin it. A 9m 4th line for the next 3 years is a problem.

If the Sabres are pretty much done now. At the end of this season they will/might need to

Find another 2C or re-sign Staal at 37 years old (If Cozens doesn't perform at a very good level at 19)

Re-sign Hall or let him walk in which case your looking to get another difference maker
Re-sign Dahlin. Re-sign Joker. Re-sign McCabe or search for 1-2 NHL LD men.

Re-sign Montour, let him walk, or trade him.

Figure out Reinhart if he just signs an arb award

Figure out Olofsson

That's a damn laundry list of things that need to be sorted out. They've deferred a lot of this to next offseason.

Find a goalie.

Why is everything always so “doom & gloom” with you?

Takes more than a few months to set up an organization for long term success,
especially with everything going on right now

It’s ok to ADMIT (& enjoy) that we’re moving in the right direction

We developed Girgs & Larsson into good players
And yeah, the Okposo contract blows
But it’s not the end of the world

If I were the Sabres brass, I'd glue Cozens to Staal. Put him on his line. Put their stalls together. Put Cozens in his house
- jcragcrumple

You're not going to like to hear this but, a think cozens plays with girgs on the 3B/4A line.

Pair him with some speed and a couple young nhl veterans, for the same reasons you're thinking with stahl.

Girgs- eakin - cozens

Although I also agree with stahl .
Skinner -stahl - cozens.

Hall/ eichel / sam for cheap
Skinner /stahl / olloffson
Girgs / eakin / cozens
Tage / lazar / okposo
BINGO!

I doubt Staal sticks around unless things go EXTREMELY well.

I would guess that if Tage doesn't earn a spot in the top 9, hevgets sent down. I believe that $1.4m contract won't be claimed by any other team, hence why they signed him to it while he earned a $800 deal..
They didn't want to lose him, that reasonably protects it from occuring.

That makes no sense. They overpaid a guy they don’t plan on rostering lol?

I understand why you're focused on goals, but his point totals the last 5 seasons were: 18, 16, 15, 18, 19. When you sign him, you're expecting 18 points. More likely the 7g 11a variety than the 12+7 version.

Kind of a boring topic compared to Hall, but it was just an odd unnecessary move. At this stage, it's sad that we don't trust a prospect to slide into that spot. That's the angle I could rant on.

- Lunaion

Fair enough 🤝

I'm gonna go on record and say the Sabres are going to be very good this season and everyone will like girgensons again.

He has that "buffalo guy" written all over him. Its easy to hate everything and everyone during this dreadful decade.

Flacco will even comment on how "he's never seen a guy improve this much in a season"

*with these exceptions : crags and broads
Ion will eventually jump on ship. Begrudgingly 😉

Sabres may have overpaid for him. None if us really know the market, and the market also adjusted after his signing. Plenty of guys still available, that weren't projected to be.

Both/one of hall and stahl can sign with the kracken conveniently.

Yeah but since the season hasn't started yet and they really don't need to do any of that. All they need to do is sign their RFAs. Crazy how changing time can completely change what needs to be done.

Let's say they're an exciting and good team in March or April and a vaccine hits. Fans back in the stands hungry for live action and a finally good team. The players will feel it. They will feed off of it. Everyone is desperate for the Sabres to be good

I have a really good feeling about this year. I know it's been doom and gloom, but I feel like fans are just so beat down. I'm not sure people are appreciating how good that top line is going to be. Even Staal hasn't been playing with someone of Skinner's caliber recently. Dahlin is a year older. There's no reason Ullmark can't be better.

We are going to be good

Before Hall, they were basically ready to punt this season away with a low 80 point team, and defer a bunch of big decisions until next season.

Krueger saved this offseason from being really underwhelming

I really have nothing against the guy. I root for him. Just never imagined him signing for significantly more (and a year longer) than Larsson. I honestly think he'd be one of those guys hoping to find a 1yr @ 1m deal somewhere right now.

Done deal though. I'm ready to move on.
