I honestly don’t think their are really top elite goalies in the nhl right now or the standard has been lowered

Vaselesky is on an all star team. Put him in the Sabres. It’s not the same Same can be said about the others

Like a 4-5 years ago. Price Henrik were top 2 locked as the top goalies

- Sabretooth9

I can agree with these thoughts too.

If you were "to start a franchise"
Bishop at 33+ and some injuries

Systems matter . Islanders for example.

Fair enough, I'm gonna change my mind and agree with you.

I looked a little closer at the stats. 3 time vezina nominee.

👍
Good thoughts

Ullmark had very good numbers 5v5. If we fix the pk ullmark is as good as the retreads mentioned tonight.
- Slump Buster

Ullmark even strength save percentage: .926, 9th of 61 goaltenders

High danger shots against per 60: 7.49, 47th of 61

High danger save percentage: .782, 53rd of 61

To me, the above shows there's a deeper issue with Ullmark that isn't explained away simply by pointing at the penalty kill.

It also tells me the issue may even get worse if the Sabres decide to employ a more offensive style and move away from their heavy defensive focused style.

This proves my point. If you eliminate the crazy number of shorthanded odd man rushes you probably have a good goalie.

Man o man would it be nice to shed Okposos salary. I’d give Risto for minimal with Okposo to dump his salary. We are at 66m before signing Olofsson and Skunk. 70m ain’t gonna happen

70mil went out the window when we signed Hall

And idk if there’s a team in the league that has room for Okposo AND Risto?
Can’t see that happening
No one is taking Okposo unless we give up A LOT
Likely stuck with him again this year

No internal salary cap. Under 81 is all that matters

I imagine he’d have to wait until the khl season ended before being able to use that clause, though.

Hmmm. I've read from another that there is no opt out clause. Only a buy out clause.

A ton of quality players left on the free agent market. With limited money left, there’s going to be a ton of value signings/players taking huge paycuts:

Granlund
Hoffman
Galchenyuk
Vatanen
Hamonic
Dadonov
Miller, Ryan
Hauska
Martin
Chara
Duclair
Kahun

I believe you are referring to Mr. Darcy Kuemper. Arizona has 2 starting goalies and a cap problem: league and internal, currently sitting at 83.3m

In the end that Rasputin looking mother(frank)er probably will be, at least until the next kid comes along. Cal Peterson is just waiting in the wings.

At least one Blackhawks fan is in love with Nylander...

I definitely don’t think Nylander should be considered a lock for a roster spot. Trade him for a 5th and never think about his useless ass again.

Regardless of what anyone thinks about KA, I highly recommend everyone listen to his interview on S&BD today.

You can knock his experience and whatever, but goddamn the guy comes across so well, so clearly and so genuinely. He just gets it

- jcragcrumple

This is where I was at for his intro presser. Doesn't wash away his lack of experience. But he's as transparent as he can be, he can relate to the fanbase and he has a purpose and big picture view of everything he does. I think he's gone beyond:

It's a situation where:
"Well let's see if Dylan Mittelstadt can anchor 2C"
"Simmonds is tough, bring him in"
"Frolik can maybe kill penalties, let's trade him for a useful defenseman"
"Let's build out our roster using mid round picks for below average players"

The guy was totally reactionary, and (frank)ing bad at it.

If they want to make this team good, Okposo and Ristolainen need to go next year. You can keep Hall, Joker and Dahlin.

I’m still not sure Okoposo makes it through this season.... just get his “retirement” office job at harbor center ready. He can have Ellis’s old job. Or Adams....

And agreed on Risto. It just doesn’t make sense financially to re-up him...
