Listening to the Adams, Hall and Ralph zoom calls, Adams reached out to Hall and his agent at noon on the first day. After they formulated there could be mutual interest, Hall and his agent had a zoom call with Adams, Ralph and the Pegulas, After this, Ralph s=and Hall talked a couple more times

All hands on deck. 👍

It works for the Bills.

$11M and they still have quality RFA's in DeBrusk and Grzelcyk to sign?

Evolving Hockey had Gustafsson at $5M, but I also said they don't have the pandemic factored in, just the flat cap.

You were right about the $3M. Congratulations.

- kingcong39

wasn't meant to be snotty, I'm a bit bitter as I wanted him at $3m although might not have been a good fit as his defensive matrix isn't flattering

The process is bad. Adams preached a good plan, did the opposite

Hall and Staal are on 1 year deals. Im excited for this season.

If he doesn’t fix the goaltending and do something about Risto/Montour being the top pair. D men, both those great acquisitions are walking out that door in a year and not looking back

- sbroads24

Think Montour gets traded, he's on a reasonable contract

I checked CapFriendly

Says they have 10.6mil room,
but that’s without RFAs DeBrusk & Grzelcyk not signed yet

But they could probably make it all work if they ship someone out who makes a few mil

I think Adams can be looked at in two ways.

1. He made the moves that Botts couldn't / wouldn't make, which is a big plus.

2. Many of the secondary moves are at best suspect and at worst poor.

Jury is still out. I have to admit - the secondary moves really scare me.

It reads to me like you're waiting and somewhat hoping for the other shoe to drop so you can call Adams a moron

I'm ok with adding an offensive defenseman, as long as it also means at least 2 of Ristolainen, Montour, and Miller are traded, even if it means they're traded for futures.

I heard he did this with Girgensons too. No pressure Zemgus, only a 600k raise and term when you can get a pay cut on a one year deal on the open market. Take your time
- sbroads24

I agree here - Girgs is a hard worker and character guy but the over paid by a good $500k

Number 2 above is a failing of many a GM, new school or old school.

For someone who liked the LOG line quite a bit,
he’s sure is concerned about the supposed overpay

Girgs basically got a .25mil raise each year,
for 3yrs
That’s actually a good contract if he keeps playing like last season
If not, we overpaid a LITTLE
Definitely NOT a big deal

No I'm waiting for any GM we hire to recognize that 55 needs to go, that your bottom 6 needs to be full of value contracts, and recognize when you have a good middle six player for cheap, you qualify them.

I also want them to not get a boner for trading up in the draft the second they have a chance, after preaching a data driven approach to it that tells you not to do it

Definitely. It gives credibility to what many have reported - Ralph is driving the bus and he maybe overvalues "his guys". I bet that is why Kahun isn't signed.

Botts first trade he got a top 6 winger and #3-4 Dman for a 4th liner and a guy who got bought out.

Those moves are easy to say yes to.

It's following those up with smart under the radar moves that keep you flexible

If I told you when Adams was hired that he would have landed Staal and Hall, no one would believe it.

If you want to be mad about Quinn, Gus and Eakin, go for it.

Hell, I'm as anti-larry as they come, but let's try to see the forest for the trees here, not nitpick at largely inconsequential crap compared to the broader Sabres outlook compared to where Botterill left us

- jcragcrumple

Botterill literally is the reason why we have Hall.

He hired Kreuger last time I checked.

Jason Botterill was the Dark Knight. The hero was needed whom was greatly misunderstood.

With some luck included, he was responsible for Dahlin, Cozens, Joker, Skinner, Pilut, Miller.

The ROR move hurt but that was on the owners more so then anything.

Botts gets a primary assist on the Hall signing.

Gets a secondary assist on the Staal trade since it was his asset in Mojo that he brought in.

When everyone says "the secondary moves", we're really only talking about one move here.

Girgensons.

Let's face it, Rieder, Irwin and the other Larry D man who's name I can't remember (Davidson?) are inconsequential. They were all signed for the league minimum and are depth players at most.

Eakin? He fills another hole at 3C for us, like him or not.

Nope, he sits in the lower 100's...can't see poop from those seats... 8h t is all nust a wow factor of game speed and the rush from the boards shaking when Girgenson falls I to them or Risto misses his 1 big check I every 4 games.

Lol Boss

- IonSabres

Hope your not driving anywhere soon ion 😐

I have seats in the 300's row 3 as well. Probably sit there an even amount of the time . 300's sabres shoot twice.
100's opponent shoots twice. I sell those fairly easy to offset costs involved in supporting this sh't show for years.

You do see way more from above. Down low behind the net , you can only see basically to the other blue line. Before you need to look up at the scoreboard. Its great when it's right in front of you..

Not surprising.

Now go attack Vegas and take advantage of their situation.

Alex Pietrangelo is finalizing a deal with the Vegas Golden Knights, sources confirm.

It's not that simple. He both chose Girgs over Larry and then overpaid him, so in a sense that is two moves. Eakin is another one that defies a good explanation. As I said, jury is still out.
