Honestly, I’m more hyped for a Mitchell than Boqvist. Right or wrong I’ve got big expectations.

I’m actually excited to see what Wyatt Kalynuk can do.

Nice signings by Bowman. Not a fan of Subban's but for 850K? Go try to win a job. If not, easily buried.
- Elbows15

Smart moves plus expansion draft one or two goalies will be exposed. And still have little over 6 million cap space. I would expect trades to happen once the big fish in free agency are off the boards. Teams legitimate chance to win the cup could circle around to players like killhorn saad palat etc.. To increase their chances to win it all.

Nice job yet again Theo!

With what you projected as our starters as of now:

Saad - Toews - Kubalik
Nylander - Dach - Kane
DeBrincat - Strome - Shaw
Highmore - Kampf - Carpenter
Suter

Keith - Murphy
de Haan - Boqvist
Carlsson - Seabrook
Koekkoek

The forward set, not terrible. A couple tweaks, a little more size and grit....sure, but not terrible.

But, that "D"....ouch. Gonna be a long year, especially without A+ goaltending. We will need 4 scrub goalies, just so they can rotate and recover from the onslaught!

Embrace the suck. Mitchell and Boquist will live up to the expectations, imo. Both have a the drive to want to be good.
- Elbows15

Exactly. Except I would say accept the suck rather than embrace it. You don't have to like it - you just have to know it's necessary for the Hawks to get to where we want them to go sooner than later.

Damn. Just saw Matt Murray's contract. Sens are betting a lotta coin on him returning to form.

Glad Bowman moved on

pooptenkirk will now return to sucking since he won't have Hedman or McDonough to carry him.

Me too. With Boqvist going into his second season along with Carlsson (essentially) and Mitchell and Kalynuk coming in. That's a lot to be excited about.

I liked Hayden but oddly it seemed his skating got worse over his time with the Hawks. Played hard.

Not sure if the Hawks will be contending for the #1 pick in next years draft or for the final playoff spot, but there are plenty of interesting story lines.
Health of Seabs, DeHaan, Shaw.
Make or break year for Nylander (and probably Strome).
Can ADB bounce back?
Can Kubalik repeat?
Will any of the goalies step up? If so, which one?
How NHL ready are Carlsson? Mitchell? Kalynyuk? Suter?
Is anyone ahead of schedule? Kurashev? Beaudin? Hagel? Barratt?
Do Pirri and Quenneville ever see the stadium ice during the regular season?

Although he went to an Ivy League school, his book smarts did not transfer over to a hockey rink.

If the numbers being put out at around 2.5/AAV for 2 years, I am more than fine with it. He can and will put up points. JC needs to utilize him in a more sheltered role and hopefully the Hawks have someone next him who is a 200 foot player.

Strome can definitely anchor a 3rd line that gets 60-65% O-zone starts to bum slay and can be productive on the PP.

2.5M is a vg value then.

The big names are still available. Hall, Hoffman, Pietragelo. Could Stanley be making a pitch?

Oddly Markstrom is shown being on the Flames roster on Capfriendly yet, there has been no announcement aside from Ek.

Lankinen(sp) and Tompkins exempt from draft protection as they have/will have played less than 2 years in NHL. Delia depends on playing time this year. So Subban is sacrificial lamb unless he plays lights out. Explains the 2 year deal.

IYRC, I was up in arms about acquiring Maatta and his contract last season. LOL. I was ready to go lean then.

Few things worse in hockey than being a mediocre team with no cap space.

Its 2 years as a pro. Neither are exempt. The AHL and ECHL counts as pro hockey.

Sarcasm, but how shocked would we be if Saad and dehaan were traded and he signed Krug?

Not saying it would happen but no one saw Lehner being signed last year
