If they were willing to pay $4.2 mil. For a goaltender for 2 years they would of just signed Crow, and not give up an asset.
- LAHawk

I see your point. But also think Kuemper at FIVE years younger, and not the health issue of Crow makes him a much better option. I wouldn't give up the farm for him...but I would definitely be checking on what it would take. I just think our goaltending is atrocious at it sits now....have to find something somewhere...

Didn't someone post a couple blogs ago that he only played 30 or more twice in his career?

I know he was a backup most of his career until the last 2 or 3 years. Don't even think he was anything special. BUT....the last 2 years ha has posted some of the best numbers in the league...a great gga and save pct each of the last two. And, I believe he may have played a good number of games the last 2 years as well.

He has been special for the Coyotes, making them a playoff contender with a crap roster. If Hawks could get the goaltending he provided to the Coyotes the last 2 years, we may be able to be a wild card contender. He's not God...but IMO he is MILES ahead of what we are going to war with now.

edit:
GP GAA SV PCT
2018-19 Arizona Coyotes NHL 55 2.33 .925
2019-20 Arizona Coyotes NHL 29 2.22 .928

Pretty decent numbers....

Are we a legitimate contender in the next two years with him? If not, we aren't in a position to trade assets that may help a few years from now when we are.

The MOST i would surrender for Kuemper is the price mentioned earlier (a few days ago); a #2 and a descent prospect. Such as Beaudin. Phoenix should expect renumeration not from a buyer or seller point - of- view. I mean demand is down after the flurry of transactions the past two days. But Phoenix should not expect or accept low ball offers. There are teams that still could value Keumper.

The exchange i give is fair for the other team because it does not really impact upon the current roster nor impact significantly upon their future. Be that Chicago or another team whom should muster up a comparable prospect & pick.

The trade is fair for Phoenix too because they get value in return for a player whom has the lingering asterisk next to his name having roughly only 30 gp each of last two seasons. If Chicago then should Beaudin develop, the Coyotes may then trade a dman and therefore gain more from the trade.

UPDATE After Crawford's signing with NJ, there is probably few teams remaining with a top heavy concern in goal. Some teams like Chicago and LA, want to give their young guys an opportunity. Someone like Quick, btw, may be difficult to trade for various reasons. And a couple of veterans league wide could become available some point during the season if they won't be protected for expansion draft. It may be premature for Askarov and Knight to strp in, but should the veteran ahead of them goes for a song it is also about shedding salary when ownership notices all the empty seats.

Kuemper .... two years left at 4.5. I love the fit for the Hawks. What would we part with...a first???....2nd and a decent prospect???...what would it take??
They don't want salary back. So pick and prospect may do it...

- hawk35

Why? The Hawks will not be in a position to be a legit contender for the Cup for at least 2 years so they don't need Kuemper for those 2 years. He would be a "let's see if we can win now" move that would be at odds with this supposed "new direction" Stan said.

If Kuemper in goal would mean 5 or 6 more wins than Delia/Subban/Lankinen it wouldn't mean anything other than the Hawks drafting 5 or 6 spots farther down in the 2021 draft.

Take our lumps now and be better for it down the road.

If I would give up anything it would be similar to what the Hawks got from Vegas, so no I wouldn't part with Beaudin.

Am fine with the Hawks going in with the trio they currently have and see what's there. If none of them pan out as a starter, figure it out next season.

Like some have mentioned, I'd rather suck for a year or two while gradually injecting more youth into the current team and acquiring more picks...not giving them up.

Lazerus and Powers reported the Hawks would have offered Cro more if they were able to buy out Smith. Since Smith wasn't recovered from his back surgery and still on IR that plan didn't work out.

Likely explains a big part of the reason the final communication between the team and Crow were emotional. Likely neither wanted Crow gone.

I'd hate to miss out on the next Keith, Saad or ADB because we gave up our second for a goalie that knight help us make the playoffs.

Just visited this blog for the first time because I was curious what the Hawks were up to goalie-wise, after both Crow and Lehner cruised. Great stuff, I wish the Leafs and Pens blogs were this thorough and well-written. Good luck!

That is a fair point. And I do like Beaudin. Honestly I don't know what other prospect they would want. I do not know if they would want or we should offer another dmsn prosoect.

I also see many good looking prospects in our pipeline and the thing about that, is logically you can only play so many kids on the same NHL blueine next year. Too much inexperience is a recipe for teams running up the score. Both Carlsdon and zBoqvist appear set. Mitchell, Kaylunuk would challenge zBeaudin for playing time. There is no shortage of prospects near by, either, although both zKyrz and Rogula is farther away from NHL trial run.

Well....they need to stop half-assing it then. If they truly have no intention of trying to make the playoffs....trade Saad now...for anything...prospect, picks, etc. Tell Kane of their intentions and ask if he wants out, and what teams he covets...they trade him for a king's ransom.

dump keith....ask Toews where he would like to be. Gut it. If not, then try to be competitive without giving up prime prospects. I just don't see how this "Half-way" re-build gets you anything but 23rd place finishes and 10 years of 1996 to 2006 Hawks....remember THAT stretch!!! (Yes Kane and Toews came of it...AFTER TEN YEARS)

Welcome, what is your thought on Dubas? For years Babcock said the Leafs needed to be tougher to play against, and it took until after he was fired for Dubas to agree with him?

I am bringing this up, because there is always a debate on here as to Bowman, with a few that call him the worst GM in the league.

I prefer to do as you say, go with what we have in net. I would not be upset if such a trade went down. But no reason to give up assets when we should see what we have in net. Since we signed Subban clearly this should be our pathway. Those AHL kids probably would become descent NHL goaltenders albeit not necessarily future NHL starters.

The trade I mentioned is merely a what if scenario.....the top price I would pay if we sought Subban
I updated the original post to include on botyom of the post thoughts on whom really desires still to add a goaltender

If they do decide to part with Saad, you don’t just deal him “for anything”. If the Hawks are in free fall at the TDL, that's when you deal him and get back a first round pick, plus.

Also, unless any of those guys are willing to waive NTC’s and then find a competitive team with $10.5M in cap Space, they are here for the duration which I’m ok with.

The hawks are done in regards to the net.

Let's live with on the job training and where it take them.

I am liking the Tyler Bozak clone the hawks selected Landon Slaggert:
U.S. A.  Developmental team whose father Andy is an assistant coach at the University of Notre Dame, where he has committed. As are most of the USA players, he has a high hockey IQ sound decision making instincts and good all-around toolbox and skill. Does everything well but doesn’t have an outstanding strength that would classify him in a more dynamic fashion. Not a speed demon, but shifty, quick, and elusive. He is a very good balance skater who has a very good wall game, a good cycle, and strong, hard forecheck. Mature and a great teammate who can play up and down a line-up in various roles but projects as mid roster. Pro-caliber vision, and hockey sense to read and anticipate where the play is going and makes good plays all over the ice because of it.  Not afraid of going to the tough areas. relentless worker with a 200 foot game who who lien up against the opposition's best scorer. He might not jump out at you when you watch him, but he rarely leaves you wanting more...In 2019-20, Slaggert appeared in 66 games scoring 34 points. In college, he needs to shoot more, when it is the best option instead of over-passing.

also Wyatt Kaiser, who I had going off the board where he did:

Minnesota high school blue liner with smarts, vision, and plenty of mobility. No wasted movement and a terriifc short area game in his end. Will not stand out as having elute charactersitsic but simply gets the job done with good defensive zone positioning and stick placement. Plays aggressive inside the rules. There is really refined sound decisions and poise already in place.  He is a slick puck mover, who advances pucks quickly to the right options. Displays short area quickness and has a nice wall and corner game. Very mobile and poised and will pinch down or drop back door, but is not a gambler. he wants to play his position without leaving his team susceptible to odd-man breaks. and reads one coming rushes and zone entries  and easily angles opposing puck carriers to the outside. Committed to the University of Minnesota-Duluth, If his development continues, he may project as a four or five NHL defender.

Would be appreciated if we make a serious run for playoffs which means not trading Saad. The fans deserve the excitement to watch good hockey as they challenge for a spot. There might be a push to play too many kids too soon if a veteran is traded. I foresee Carlsson as a solid addition and Pious Suter will help. I would consider even experimenting with Hagel on a second offensive line only because I feel the team needs more grit and fearlessness challenging for pucks from at least one of the top two lines in forecheck and along boards. If Boqvist stronger, more confidant plus the goaltending is descent, we can make a serious playoff run.

Well. Keep Keith n Toews. Trade Kane for the boatload. Keeping Kane only wins you more games and get worse draft pick.

I am willing to go into training camp with the goalies. My gut is that Subban is the starter opening night. It took Jacob Markstrom 8 years to establish himself as a starting goaltender. If you look at Markstrom’s career before he established himself in Vancouver, you could of exchanged his picture with Anton Forsberg and see no difference.

when you trade a stud core piece like Kane and you receive a boatload of draft choices, you should recognize that most of those draft picks are not going to be a blue chip prospect whom could approach a Kane level of excellence. So for me I only consider moving someone like Kane if gutting a team. Which is (should not) be the case. Just IMHO

If I was going to make one sweeping generality about the hawk scouting, most argues who quickly make decisions and advance pucks with rapidity and forethought.
...and that is the way the game is evolving with the skilled attackers...
