As long as the Hawks don't sign Cory to replace him. At least it wasn't Colorado

Best of luck Crow

And at $3.9 AAV, just $400K more than what Chicago offered so not a big gap like millions more. Guessing it was both the term (2 years vs 1 year) and the dollar amount.

At least Crawford is in the other conference. He'll just haunt us when it's the Blackhawks and Devils in the Stanley Cup Finals next year or in 2022.

And for those figuring out Lankinen's nickname, I'll settle it for you: it's Lankinener.

The infamous addition of -er to last names liked Saader. Ultra creative.

Calgary is a mess. Tanev looked like crap against the Knights.

They have 6M left with 16 players signed.

My guess is none of those teams wanted to commit to 2 years.

The more I read up on 3rd round pick Wyatt Kaiser, the more I like him. As far as excellent skaters in the D pipeline, he could emerge as one of the best.

What I love most is his compete level, hockey sense, and ability to play physical as a smaller defender. While he claims he needs to push the pace more on offense., he's still reliable in all zones.

As long as he can lock it down defensively and consistently flip the ice, then any offense he can bring is just icing on the cake.

Sure, Kaiser may never make it, yet he is a great example of what the Hawks should pursue in every player whether drafted, traded for, signed as a free agent, etc: competitive, intelligent, and reliable across 200 feet.

As with Kaiser, I am also liking the other 3rd round pick in winger Landon Slaggert. He reminds me of a better skating Evan Barratt: competitive, aggressive, smart, crafty, and defensively sound.

Guess he may just be a 4th liner at the pro level but his ceiling is 3rd line as a checking forward who can agitate, contribute to secondary scoring, and kill penalties.

I guess his plan is to move Saad + De Haan / Murph at the deadline?

I know you didn't ask me but other than the 200 ft game part I don't see their styles/skills the same at all. Saad is a super fast skater without gears, he's not shifty. High end speed without quickness/explosion. A north-south skater. A power forward.

Reichel has tons of zig/edgework to his attack, a shifty player. Again I see his processing speed his best attribute. Add his feet/hands/edges to that and he can play much much faster than Saad who is a faster top end speed skater.

- Mr Ricochet

This post by Rico is from the last blog but just now commenting on it.

Besides being 200-foot players with speed, I would have to agree that Reichel and Saad are different players.

Saad's game is predicated on more power and straight away speed while Reichel's game is intelligent with quickness and agility in all directions.

Despite having different body types, both are also resilient players in that they will just bounce back after taking a jolt and keep motoring.

Thank you sir, Reichel to me is a typical Mark Kelley pick. Not necessarily the best player available at #17 today, but he and his scouts project him to be better than what was available when it came to their turn in 2-3 years.

Obvious from what Kelley said that they wanted someone else way more, but couldn't get a deal done.

Wonder if Reichel's stock would be higher if not under the shadow of Stutzle.

- LAHawk

And this post by LAHawk is from the last blog as well but just now commenting on it

This is exactly what I was getting at in the blog regarding different ways to think about the best player available strategy.

Reichel has been regarded as a prospect who may not look like a prospect worthy of a 1st round selection today but coaches and scouts know what they see in him as a youngster who may creep up and be one of the best in the 2020 draft once all draftees reach their full potential.

For Reichel, that timeline might be twice as long as others taken in the 1st round but his ceiling could end up being higher than most when all is said and done.

I'll take that.

I just don't understand that line of thinking. Especially now, why would you want to tie yourself into a year of salary under these conditions, when if after this season, if you are still a top goaltender, you may have been able to make more salary next season in FA.

And maybe Crow wanted to be somewhere he was likely to see a fair number of games. Schneider?...Blackwood??...Crow will likely get a pile of games.

At his age and concussion history. I see no reason why he would gamble on that. Take the two years...bank the $$$...and at 37, ride off into the sunset...

Kuemper .... two years left at 4.5. I love the fit for the Hawks. What would we part with...a first???....2nd and a decent prospect???...what would it take??

Kuemper wouldn't be a signing, already inked for 2 more years at 4.5. If we were dangling 3.5 at Crow....surely 4.5 for the next TWO years for Kuemper would be a good acquisition. (Look what we have otherwise...

Does Mikko Koivu have anything left in the tank? He could be one of those vets that you sign for a year (cheap AAV with incentives) and move at the TDL for picks, if he can stay healthy.

You would want the Hawks to give up a first or a prospect for him. The Hawks are most likely a lottery team next year with or without him. IMO Stan needs to stick to a plan of youth , prospects and losing salary

Yes. Not a Boqvist or top guy....but I would part with a lil prospect package for him. Not a First, being we may be lottery. But a 2nd and OK prospect would be fine.

The goalies we have...in my estimation...are likely the very worse group in the entire league....

If they were willing to pay $4.2 mil. For a goaltender for 2 years they would of just signed Crow, and not give up an asset.
