Jankowski is going to be a UFA? - BINGO!
Yup - Flames could still bring him back, but weren't willing to risk arb with this guy. Doubt they do, he's very non-dimensional.

So Murray is gone, josh Anderson is gone, flames trade down instead of taking BPA. Tre started in his interviews that we were 11 seconds from being up 3-1 on the western conference champs and was preaching patience siting a comparison between us and tamp from a few years ago I’m starting to get that sinking feeling that we will same team next year with a watered down defence core - kresco
BPA according to whom? They got the guy they wanted and 2 more for 19

Every GM is going to publically say they got the player they wanted.
What did you expect him to say? |

True enough but uh... Zary is a good pick? |

They had a jersey made up and ready for him. |

I suspect Guhle was their preferred player, and maybe Mercer too, but yeah, once they fell off their board, Tre knew who his guy was. That he traded back a 2nd time tells you there was a group of guys he pretty much saw in the same tier of players.

Im a bit surprised at the negative talk today, loved the extra pick trades and still landing Zary. Can’t understand why more Gm’s don’t do those trade down moves. Now they get a steal in poirier and have two more picks this round. - neem55
When you get eliminated in the 1st round it tends to get that way. What’s wrong with Virtanen? Guy finally looks decent and all Canucks fans want to trade him |

It worked out all right since Poirier fell so far, but they'll probably end up regretting not taking Schneider or Lapierre.
It would've been nice to use the first round pick on a guy with 1st line upside. |

What do you mean 1st line upside?
I’ve watched him play he’s a very good player. He’s got decent size to go with his offensive talent.
Lapierre is still a risk, I know they said it was a a neck thing that could be a reason he went later. I guess we’ll see. Saying he’d have been top 10 if not for the injury. |

We will have no clue how this draft went for a couple years. Tre and the scouts have done a pretty amazing job so far on the drafts so i will cut him some slack. |

If there was someone at 19 they wanted more they would have taken him...Zary was ranked at or below where they picked
lol@people that pretend they know with drafts
There is a 6th or 7th rounder taken today that will end up as one of the best players in the draft like every other year.

The draft room looking pretty ecstatic after philly took forester tells me you’re right about it being mostly a group of players. My guess this group included Schneider, Lapierre and zary.
When the rangers called looking to grab Schneider I guess that based on the devils being loaded at center and the devils already taking 2 forwards, Calgary took the chance that they’d pass and we’d get the remainder of the 2 Centers Columbus passed on.
Regardless of the way the draft shook out with NJ and Columbus going off the board, I think Calgary would have happily chosen one of the two at 22 but with the cost to move up already set Washington offered an extra pick and with both on the board Calgary took the gamble philly would pass on one. Risky, but they did get one of the guys they wanted. |

I will also add that karins and Francis while both undersized look like fantastic picks for the later rounds.
As far as the Russian goalie goes. He’s put up ridiculous numbers but he also did it in Russia’s junior league while being an over-age player. Goalies are a crap shoot so who know he may be a vezina winner someday but I would have preferrd someone with a decent track record in either North American junior, NCAA, or the European men’s leagues.
As far as my earlier choices for late round goalies goes Kamloops’ garand went to the rangers in the 4th and London’s brochu didn’t get drafted. Somewhat hard to believe considering he led the OHL in goals against average and and was second in save %. You would think a team would have taken a chance on a goalie with those stats even if he is 5’ll |

Was a "meh" for me - think Zary will be decent, not sure about the rest just yet.
Duclair out there intrigues me a bit though, depending on the price, wouldn't mind taking a shot on a guy like that to play with Bennett and Dube...

Cousins also interesting. Better player than Rinaldo.
Duclaire not qualified by OTTAWA, there’s got to be something else going on. He’s been with a few teams now. |

Imo it’s the Flames top priority. Revolving crease has got to stop. Brad better get this right 11 goalies in 6 years. Stop the bleeding! |

Treliving's a big fan of ruining all the good work he does with awful UFA moves. So probably.
