Yeah Sceviour isn't JJ bad or much of a problem. But with all these players coming available for cheap, I'd rather spend the roster spot on someone who might play on the 3rd instead. Lafferty can ably fill that role.
- Tojo.

He's only a 300k cap hit if we send him down, which is cheap for legit NHL depth in case of injuries with all the back to backs that will probably happen this year

I don't get why people are so hung up on 300k

If Matheson is barely 3rd pairing and can't become 2nd pair worthy... its a beyond stupid move. You can find 3rd pairing Dman for 2 mil or less
- Guile

Could say the same about a 4th line winger who stands in front of the net on the second PP unit.

Huh? how does trading Murray free up cap space when he is an RFA and not currently signed? Am I missing something?

He had to be qualified and QOs have cap tied to them.

They don't have to offer a QO (which he could accept) to retain his rights...or lose him for nothing.

To sign him would have costed cap space

I can almost afford a house with 300k in Ontario

Yeah, but you'd have to live in Ontario.

How come when it’s a bad trade it’s JR is an idiot, but when it’s a great trade JR doesn’t even get brought up?

Great job here by JR, high second round pick for goalie in a buyers market

- stackthepads

Yep, good job by GMJR here and he deserves credit. I'll have to check up on the prospect to see how he's rated, but just getting a 2nd and no retention is a great job.

Yes but he wasnt yet so he wasnt taking up any space so by trading him they just kept the space they had already. They arent forced to sign him. They could leave him as RFA until whenever the RFA deadline would be in this f*cked up year. Trading him was always the plan.

Once they gave Murray the Qualifying offer they were at the mercy of him signing it, and "poof" 4.25 Million in capspace gone

Nashville buying out Kyle Turris. I'd target him in free agency. He is a good 3rd line option and he can move up to a temp top 6 role if crosby/malkin are hurt.
- SuperHenderson13

I don't know what he has left, but for the right price I'd take a chance on Turris. He was pretty good in Ottawa and for some reason (coaching?) everyone declines when they go to Nashville lately.

Only if accepted though correct? I dont think he would have any intention of signing a QO

Nope. Once they made the offer, Murray could have signed it whenever he wanted to, so you have to account for that money

I think he’d be fine on an offensive third line, which is what we need the third line to be. I think it’d be a good get.

Worst case for the Pens was a stalemate in trading/RFA Murray, every other team moves on at goalie, then Murray signs his QO and the Penguins can't find a taker at 4.25 Million

or

He takes the team to arbitration and the Pens walk away from the deal and he becomes a UFA and they get nothing

Got to look at it from Murrays standpoint too. If he sees the Goalie Market drying up he might F the Pens, take the QO and become a UFA at the end of the season

I'm just overjoyed we will have a pick albeit number 52, we NEED to be excited for the future because the present is dwindling.

Maybe making space for a guy like Tyler Johnson? They moved out 2 centers.

Here is Pronman,s write up from the Athletic ... he was his top ranked Goalie left on the board

“ Blomqvist had a very good season, leading the Finnish junior circuit in save percentage and is the No. 1 goalie for Finland’s U18 team. He has a powerful lower body, allowing him to move across the crease very well and make tough saves. While he is very quick, his movements are often in control as he is rarely way out of position. His puck tracking is fantastic. Blomqvist is rarely fooled by opponents passing plays and stays square even when the puck is bouncing through traffic. The main issue with him is his 6-foot-1 frame. He plays the way you want a smaller goalie to play. He’s aggressive and challenges when he needs to, and he doesn’t automatically go into a butterfly for mid to long-distance shots. But every time a puck goes over his shoulder you wonder how it will translate to the pro level.

Anssi Laine, coach of Finland’s U18 team, on Blomqvist: “He gets wins for us. He’s very calm in the net. He has the look of someone who will be a great goalie in the future.””
