If there were no potential risk with the pick, he wouldnt be there at #23, plain and simple.

With that said, I'm happy with the pick. Skating pales in comparison to hockey sense, and it seems like this kid has a decent feel for the game. And that shot is legit.

Not thrilled with this pick as I feel the Flyers needed to add more, not less, speed. Also comparisons to Kerr in regards to his skating are ludicrous. Kerr was a massive 6’3 230 and freakishly strong, possessed unbelievably soft hands and powerful wrists and played in era where speed wasn’t as much of a factor.

Foerster’s skating is a legit issue and this pick has a chance to be a flat out bust. IMO, Perrault or Grieg would have been better choices.

He'll be fine. Just needs to learn when to let go of his stick when skating. Can't be rowing a kayak out there. His shot is lethal and accurate. He's intelligent and is an excellent playmaker.

Greig has higher bust potential than Foerster. We also have enough good bottom 6 players on this team, thats where I see Greig ending up. Albeit a very good 3rd liner.

I’m going to have to rely on the Flyer scouting department here and hope for the best. The Flyers needed to add some RW depth and at #23 all of these guys are flawed at this point in their development. One more good pick coming in the second for the Flyers then a lot of long shots after that. Fingers crossed.

So, how long before the kid is realistically able to compete for the NHL roster?

Skating is fixable. And yes, this team has a speed issue but it also had goal scoring issues in the playoffs. Nice to see this team take a player where his shooting is his strongest suit.

I wonder if we start seeing or hearing about trades today as teams try to shape their rosters before Friday and free agency. I would assume they would want to either clear money or move contracts prior to friday so they have a clearer picture of their rosters.

My guess is that there will be more trades this year due to cap constraints. I think some teams will be in desperate mode.

Does this kid have a high ceiling? Rather take the chance on a potential "star" then the safe Laughton type. No problem if this is a swing for the fences type pick and not even sure it is really.

Top-six potential. Think Scott Hartnell, minus the shenanigans.

I have the same concerns just based on what I read. Would definitely prefer a top skater but if you can play, you can play. Lets give the kid a chance.

Yeah, skating isn’t a real issue if it can’t be corrected. Slow players can hang just as long as they have proper positioning and know where to be on the ice.

Nope, already a bust. Won't ever be able to be a passable skater based on where he's at when he's 18 years old. Might as well just forget all about him and move on.

Can't win a Cup anyway without a top 5 pick. I don't know why teams even bother selecting these schlubs.

Unpossible. Frost will need to stickhandle for about a half minute while Foerster stumbles his way up the ice to be in a half decent scoring position.

Didn't people say that Strome's skating could be fixed as well?

I'm going with 3-4 years but you never know. If he progresses well next season, that shot and PP ability could be awfully tempting.

Andreas Athanasiou will be an unrestricted free agent. Haven't heard him mentioned as a potential forward addition, but it could make good sense.

I’ve never seen a guy create so many breakaways with a good stick and blazing speed but not finish. I’ll take him but he’s the biggest tease.

There's bad skaters and then there's Matthew Strome. Foerster has a hill to climb. Strome was in the valley of Mount Everest.

"Flyers need to draft a guy who can score goals!!!"

Flyers draft a guy who can score goals.

"Why didn't we draft a guy who is fast!?!?"

While not all players fix this issue. There are others that have been knocked for skating that have had great careers.

Bill mentioned stone. I believe this was a knock on Jamie benn and our own Oscar. He will now be working with some of the best skating coaches out there.

Flyers should've drafted Sven Kramer. Obvious missed opportunity.
