Building a team and making decisions as a GM is not done in a vacuum where you look at trades and player independent of the makeup of your team. The Flyers can't afford to trade Provorov unless it involves an equal defenseman in return. If you make deals like that all you have is a better offensive top line but a weaker team.

I think the general premise for those against is this: taking Provy off will create a bigger hole than the hole that is the absence of Eichel now. That's true.

But you don't pass up a chance to get Eichel on your team because he does not fit. You fit the team around Eichel. He is that good.

You always have to have a plan. The Flyers have a really nice stable of young D as it is but in today’s world there are teams that will have to rid them selves of $, not because of the NHL mandated salary cap but because of the owners self imposed budget. The Flyers don’t have that problem.
I mean I keep hearing how good Sanheim and Myers are...ghost had 65 points two years ago and is now healthy again....add in Hägg that’s hardly an AHL skill level. We are talking a star player vs. Generational talent.

people are using "generational" too loosely in my opinion. eichel is a very good player, but generational, i don't know about all that.

you dont drop Nisk then Provy and just move forward. You can count on Ghost but the team is not better. Jack brings a higher cap hit, replacing a provy would cost how much cap for another D? 7 mil at the min? How easy is it to replace a #1 D? One of the few players that really hold check on contract is D. So you are left with moving JVR or GHOST? You moving Jake? For what?

Your question of how many cups did we win with the legit Dman lacks context. You know full well that this is a team that is still developing. The context is about how to build a team so we can get to the level of competing for Cups. To do that, we need top flight defense and goaltending.
