i don't like bettman but it's sad to see anybody like that. he's 68, not completely sure but looks like parkinson's. parkinson's tremors are there when you stay still and go away when you move.

Yup. Called that at the beginning of the night...I was reminded of the days when Michael J Fox came out with the news of his diagnosis.

looks to be a consensus that Guhle was ahead of Lapierre, but between #16 and #22 there's not a huge world of a difference... Lapierre's injury situation really influenced this, and perhaps a bit too much
- Pat1993

Well I trust they've done their homework and they thought Guhle was a better pick. Je comprend la sentimalité de sélectioner un joueur de Québec, mais retournant a une équipe gagnant dois être la priorité dans mon opinion. Je m'excuse si ma grammaire est terrible.

The best player available at #16 today was Mercer according to the Scabeh's wishlist.

there you go

but you're still happy with the Guhle pick, right? I haven't seen him play at all, except for highlights, so I don't really have an opinion... I just feel people may have been "over-biased" by Lapierre's medical reports

arrête, ton français est meilleur que la plupart du monde ici (et certainement meilleur que Bergevin! lol)

and I get what you're saying, but I felt Lapierre was a "nice risk" to take, it's not like they were picking a guy projected to be a 50th pick at 16th just because he's a Quebecer... but yeah, they probably did their homework (hopefully) and had information we don't necessarily have either

Yes, Guhle was the third best defenseman in that draft. He was one of the players I wanted to end in Montreal.

As I said though, I feel like he wasn't the player to pick when we did so I'm happy/disappointed.

your French is more than ok.
we all want a winning team, the problem is that Timmins have been trying for 18 years... never once drafted a NHL 70 point player. not 1 in 18 years. I highly doubt Guhle will be that guy.
I guess we have the right to be suspicious a little bit.

Thanks, it has been a few years since I've practiced it much. That's fair and I have no problem taking a big risk big reward play, it just has to be for the right reasons. I know I beat Sergachev to Drouin to death, but one has to feel there was sentimentality in that trade in getting a local player, because taking a LW and turning him into a center as a plan just doesn't sound rational.

yeah, for sure that trades like the Sergachev one or picks like Louis Leblanc look bad, but I think they were still very different situations, and you can't shy away from a good opportunity because of past mistakes, imho. that being said, the habs' prospect pool in terms of D wasn't that great, so I'm not completely disappointed either by the direction taken

exactly. and tonight they had a chance to draft the 'next Drouin' in Lapierre. they did not. time better prove them right... if not they'll hear about if for years.
remember Giroux?

Yeah Louis Leblanc was basically forced onto to them by the crowd. Sergachev for Drouin seemed like a very desperate attempt at getting a good center.

You mean when they decided to draft the big mobile defenseman instead of the super talented french speaking player?

Like they'd ever make that mistake again!

Yeah the outrage will be amplified if the pick goes awry and Lapierre plays like Patrick Kane. I think it just goes to show what a crapshoot the draft actually is though. In that same draft there was a whole ton of garbage selected in the 2nd round with Boston picking twice in that round before getting Marchand in the 3rd. I hate that little poop but he's miles ahead of everybody in that 2nd round. Moral of the story, I think they just have to make the best pick they can with the information they have and live with it whatever happens. Hence why I'm happy they took this approach and picked Guhle (or at least I hope that's what happened).

we agree, it's a crapshoot. one more reason to pick the local boy.
they say Guhle could be a Parayko light.

What Doug Wilson Jr. just did when #SJSharks drafted Ozzy Wiesblatt with the final pick of the first round was so amazing!

Using sign language to make the pick for Wiesblatt's mom who is deaf. #Class

Agreed, most of us here have probably never seen him play so it's hard to pass judgment, we only have to hope that our scouts did their job correctly.

Here's what Louis Robitaille (GM and coach of Gatineau Olympiques) had to say about the kid.

I don't think anyone would complain if Guhle became like him.
