I am still for the Hawks to draft Lapierre if he is available. More a boom or bust pick, but love the upside.

Hey LA Hawk,

Dubynck was just traded to SJ with a 7th for a 5th. Minnesota retains half portion of the salary left which is not bad actually $4.33 mill one yr remaining.

Why so cheap. Perhaps Guerin, Minny GM, is desperate to clear salary cap room. If Dumba also goes in a trade, there might be someone he wants to go after. He is attempting to re-shape the roster by moving out pieces whom are not going to be whom he wants in a couple years when the team hopefully is on the upswing. No more Koviou too. I like Andersson Ek and they have Goldy plus the Russian kid coming aboard. Wonder whom Guerin might be targeting. Whom as a free agent sign would choose to play there?

Saw this article in regards to the Hawks lack of player developement that has me questioning their system

That writer is the same guy who said Murphy is the hawks BEST defenseman, so don't put all your eggs in this basket, as they will get broken...

Wow, out of nowhere. So, either they go for Pietrangelo to play with Provorov on the top pair (which will mean they will need to clear JVRs salary). I don’t see Krug as a fit, as he’s LHD....maybe Barrie but need more of a defensive partner, as Provorov loves to roam around. Or they go the trade route to fill... if StanBo is in rebuild mode vs win-now mode...Murphy trade would fit as RHD top pair to play with Provorov. Value wise, I would think you need to ask high for 23rd overall and Morgan Frost Or Farabee & then maybe Morin as a reclamation project in AHL. Braun is a 3rd pair guy... so still missing someone to fill the spot (I don’t see Ghost being called upon to fill)
- DrewDawg

I think they slam the phone down in laughter at that ask for Murphy. He's not that great

The biggest question I have about the Hawks future moving forward is why Stan Bowman is the one making decisions anymore? Tip my hat to him for his contributions during the last decade...time to move on and get a fresh set of eyes in the organization.

The way the Kings are on their 3rd GM since their cups? GM roulette has yet to prove anything.

Here is question for the panel as arm chair gm's:
17th overall pick strome to Tampa for cireilli and cernak. Sign cernak 3 years 2.5 million per cireilli 4 years between 3 or 4 million per year. Fills needs hawks need 3rd line center 200ft game and dman with edge to his game.

Tampa tells you to get (frank)ed with that proposal

The team needs at least one snarly top six add
A helpful but not preresiquite is for said player to have a big frame body. A long reach and some bulk (a 215 225 pound force) provides this forward with an advantage against smaller players. We have decried the need for toughness, grit, compete level so that is more important than the size/bulk issue.

I am curious if anyone recalls watching Peter McNab back in the day. I was young back then but he sure looked like you couldn't get near him when he was along the boards.

- jhawk59

Only a few remember him but Dach reminds me of a quicker Phil Esposito. We can only hope!

I think Strome and a bag of pucks are worth roughly the same on the open market at this time. A year from now I hope I'm wrong.

The score app had a story about why the trades were made

Guerin has seen a slip in performance in Dubnyck last two years. I noticed he is 34 yr old btw. Guerin has a couple prospect goaltenders, the main one I think is the AHL kid. There is a glut of goaltenders on market, either as stop gag for a couple years or if he wants to invest in one of the Columbus kids.

Donato was let go because they obviously do not view him as a top goal scoring forward. Led Minny last season with 14 even strength goals. Back to Dubnyck
He will be training with M Jones trainer and the two will compete for starter job. If one falters then they want a veteran to step in. Both should be challenged to get the starting gig. M Jones has not been maybe but mediocre last few years.

Guerin said his goaltending was horrible last year. Although he won't say it, he hates the make-up of the team he took over. He needs a center hopefully a #1, but at least a solid #2. They are dangling Dunba for a #1 or #2 center. He is stuck with Zuccarello, Parise and Suter's contract as albatrosses.

How does Lafreniere compare to other first overalls going back to the McDavid draft?

I asked this question about a month ago. This is not any comparative to the type of player, but as far as overall talent and projection, I was told he is somewhere between Hischier and McDavid.

I’m going to respectfully disagree. Although I’m not a huge fan of Strome, and would like a different 3C on the Hawks, his point pace for two full seasons with Hawks is about 58 points/yr. I would say that’s worth more than a bag of pucks.

I doubt we'd get a first for him? Anything worse than a 2nd is likely never an NHL player. I would agree he should be worth a 2nd. I've been somewhat tainted by everyone saying how slow he is.

I've been saying for a while a little more strength would make up for a lot of his short comings. Handzus was the epitome of slow but would stick his nose into anything. Zus also had a much better stick.

One perspective to think about is skill versus ability to execute fundamentals. Then add in compete level and that is a method for determining whether someone is an impact player.

Strome definitely has skill but needs to enhance his execution of fundamentals and ramp up his compete level.

Handzus had all three. Maybe a little less offensive skill but more skills for all situations.

I remember even in his younger years when he first started with the Blues, Handzus starred in a Slovakian line with Pavol Demitra and Lubos Bartecko who could all cycle the puck like nobody's business.
