Wiz,

Besides the fact that Saad is 30 pounds heavier than Reichel is NOW, do you see any similarities between their play? Many people on this board say we need more Saad like 200 foot players and it looks like we have one in Reichel. Comments?

- boilermaker100

Somehow I read that companion, and it didn't fir for me.

I think it is based on the fact that Saad does things quick handed even though it seems like his shot is a duck so many times.

I think maybe they (who ever you tell me who said that) were think this kid will play up and downtime line-up as opposed to the hawks finding two guys to compliment him...

BTW, on TV how many pounds did they say this kid added since the spring?

Oh, heavenly days! Our local energy company is trimming trees and turned off my power - will it be on in a 1.5 hours.

The funny think is DraftSite's new owners are in LA and are chill...I notified them that even after they assured me there would be more added space so it didn't crash, it did, they say well if you cannot get the info in no worries...just do your best...I m sure, I will just stop my passion, commitment, I am only the guy you want to lead traffic to gambling...

Maybe pick moves...I think preFriday UFA day will be the window you are looking at too.

From the man who wanted to keep Anisimov what do you have against Sharp?
- rpeters01

I have no great affinity for AA, but felt like he was better than anything we’d get in return.

Sharp was a good player, but I always thought he was a bit overrated by the Hawk faithful, plus, he’s a complete wiener...so there’s that.

Again, I hate to say anything definitive but first impressions, I mean the first 2-3 minutes, make a big impact on my flawed thinking but I think the kid's comparison to Pettersson is warranted. I'd add Pettersson and TT's games/approach and style are similar too.

Don't post much anymore LA but appreciate your level headed mature contributions when I read. Keep them coming, sir.

Thank you sir, Reichel to me is a typical Mark Kelley pick. Not necessarily the best player available at #17 today, but he and his scouts project him to be better than what was available when it came to their turn in 2-3 years.

Obvious from what Kelley said that they wanted someone else way more, but couldn't get a deal done.

Wonder if Reichel's stock would be higher if not under the shadow of Stutzle.

Like M. Night Shyamalanin sixth Sense I see draft prospects.

You don't attempt to trade up as the goalie you select in the second is a reach, and I see ELEVEN really nice forwards and EIGHT intriguing defensemen not counting Jérémie Poirier who is a one way attacker (that I thought someone would get suckered into convincing themselves he was the next Karlsson...)

17 players and 14 teams in front of us.

I think they want Sam Colangelo (since they had him in and on interview more than anyone else...I still love big Will Dufour.

I just don't think "best player available" will pertain to another undersized defender.

Funny thing: next year there is os much more tall kids especially in the defenders...

- wiz1901

Going way out on a limb but I don't see huge differences in Colangelo, who I've seen every single game he's played as a Steel, many many live, and Carson Bantle who's projected in the 90's I think............ Bantle is 230 lbs and scary at the Jr level man, he can injure those kids. Kid goes into beast mode with that horrid Madison team with those soft hands and offensive IQ at 230lbs and it's a sight.

I absolutely love 2nd yr eligible Trevor Kuntar. Off the charts compete, his coach said his teammates hate to practice against him. Chip on his shoulder kinda player who wins races to pucks vs much faster smaller players. Not small at 200lbs and the kid can absolutely wire the thing.

Would not surprise me at all if he were an elite 3rd liner 5-6 yrs from now.

Thanks to you and Ricochet for the comments. Big difference between Saad and Reichel's style of play.

Reichel listed at 6-0 170 pounds on cap friendly. Sometimes those numbers are inflated. I'm sure he can put on 10-15 pounds in a few years. Anyway, I am intrigued about his Eias Pettersson comparison. I'm not expecting that, but it would be nice if he turns out to be that type of player. Sounds to me that he plays with a non stop motor.

#NHLJets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff wouldn't reveal how high the organization had Cole Perfetti ranked. Says those lists are "sacred." But he did say he got an interesting offer from a team trying to trade up to get the 10th pick. But he said you'd have to read his book to know offer

My guess that was the Hawks, wonder what they offered?

With the goalie market like it is and the flat cap, might be the most movement we've seen in years. Ottawa could really make out like a bandit IMO and be playoff ready next year.

Remember yrs ago the Hawks said they value IQ as much as anything? I think that was a big part in them drafting Reichel. I may be splitting hairs but I think skill trumps all for the Hawks and in Reichel they see a bit of both. You do not put up .5 pts per game without both skill and IQ vs men as a 17/18 yr old.

As far as his stock I read he grew from 5ft 9in to 6ft going into his draft yr. That caused him to rise but when starting so low coming into your draft yr scouts rarely bump a guy up 30 spots. ......... Not sure though.

In his younger days led the league in short handed goals, played Center and Wing, very fast, complete 200' player, without looking probably ~250 goals, but he is "too pretty."

Chris Peters

Lukas Reichel was a riser on my board all year long. Ended up at No. 17, but flirted with going even higher. One of my favorite players in the draft, a silky-skilled winger with a high-end release. As he gets stronger, he'll be even better. High upside pick here for Chicago.

Is Carson ]Bantle THAT big ? I had him at 215...he is going to Michigan Tech, so hopefully his skating deficiencies get fixed there.

And Kuntas is going to Harvard, right?

New blog! A review of the Blackhawks 1st round selection of winger Lukas Reichel. Was he a surprise or a reach?

Surprise, yes. Reach, no. I think drafting Reichel as the best player available at 17th was justified.

Chris Peters worked for the NTDP maybe 10 yrs ago. We was surrounded by the best 16/17 yr old players this country had to offer and the people charged with finding them, evaluating them and then coaching them.

He's connected and a sharp guy. When he speaks about prospects I listen and hold him in high regard. Not just a guy who rates prospects but was on the inside of the powerhouse NTDP and learned from the best about how the process of evaluating and coaching elite prospects works. ............... Not surprised he likes Reichel and comforting to read.

I could be off on Bantle's weight. Let me ask around with people who should know. Tell you what, he plays like he's 230 lbs but is silky like a 170 pounder. And yes his funky stride, but not a bad skater, is the reason he's not ranked higher........ Kuntar is listed as going to Boston College.

Well, after letting the pick sink in... I feel like they picked the best solid prospect to play the full 200’ game. There might have been a few with slightly higher ceilings...but hearing the comments after they took Dach last year, I feel they put an emphasis on being defensively responsible as well.

The 2nd and 3rd will be fun to see what they do. Do they go with Size/Power winger, or do you go high upside sniper, or maybe speed in Foudy, or a large/mobile Dman. The 3rd round I’m hoping they finally pick a Goalie prospect.

There’s going to be a few “lotto tickets” in the later rounds as well. Excited to see the final draft class when it’s all over.

All and all a good pick .I didn't know much about him prior to the draft but always like the players who are rising fast before the draft .
