Thanks Carol
I agree OEL would be a good add . A definite upgrade. - VANTEL
I’ll maybe agree dependent upon who is moved. I don’t see Arizona being forced into a fire sale but they are hamstrung cap & cash wise. The NMC has them over a barrel no doubt but JB has to play some hard ball. |

No question take the cap dump and prospect plus 1st for OEL as a huge win. - NuckUp
It's a 1 season cap dump. Just how much does this effect the Canucks long term compared to not having a 1st two seasons in a row? Something to consider at least...

There is no doubt that OEL will make this team better for the short to medium term. I know where you stand. Get it done and quickly because a the draft and free agency are almost here, there are other issues at hand and the Canucks could make some playoff noise before the Petey and Hughes re-ups.
 - boonerbuck
Yeah I have been straight forward about my thoughts on it.
I am looking forward to this week. Keep a close eye on RFAs that are not qualified.

I'm kind of split on it. Canucks are going to need entry level contracts and that is more likely if they have a 2021 1st but I also think JV could be a better asset in a separate deal like you suggest. - boonerbuck
Canucks have plenty of ELC's they can insert in the line up. Top of the list are Hogs, Rathbone and Pods. |

If JV doesn't take a friendly deal he is easy to trade to Sens or NJ who have plenty of draft picks and eager to add someone with his tools and record. - NuckUp
JV would be smart to just sign his qualifier before he ends up in some American poophole with little chance at success.

Plan B is probably Tyson Barrie - VANTEL
That’s a scary notion unless he comes in at a very team friendly price. Even at that I’m not a fan of his big defensive problems being our LHD are not all that complimentary. Edler is not playing here much longer & he’s the only partner that makes sense. |

The tight squeeze is now. Canuck cap space is only getting better next 2 seasons with expiring contracts and removal of cap recapture and buy out. |

This could be one of the few years where free agency is like finding good deals at Army Navy.
How many RFAs will be UFAs at the end of the week? - VANTEL
I suspect a historic amount will happen. |

Agreed. I think teams with cap space remaining after the first few days of free agency will get some steals. - Nucker101

That’s the thing though, who does OEL replace on that unit? I assume the Toffoli/Boeser spot? EP is already one lefty so it’s better to have another righty on the opposite circle for one timers.
I think OEL would end up on PP2 eventually - Nucker101
I envision Hughes doing his rover with OEL up high alone on the point. It will open up the pp even more than we’ve seen. |

I think years past overpayment was a requirement because of everything associated with Canucks. Travel , Canadian , bad team , everything. This year players find this as a desirable landing spot. I am confident I will like this years edition of the Canucks

They will need more ELC's than that if they take on OEL's 8.25. Toffoli looks like he's going to check out the Market(so much for Satire Shah's report) and Boeser will be up for a raise the season after Petey and QH re-up. He will get a raise or be gone. Top 6 will have holes and it would be irresponsible to pencil in Hogz and Podz for the top 6 in the planning ahead presently.

His shot is as good as any other current Canuck . They really don't have a hammer on the first unit.
Canucks PP is so predictable it needs a new look. - VANTEL
Predictable but lethal. Problem I found is when they telegraph passes is where it broke down. If they are quick & clean it’s magic. |

Sutter has 1 year left.
JV is up for a new contract and has Arb rights.
It can be argued that JV's contract could be more of a hindrance long term. - boonerbuck
Sutter’s term isn’t bad, unfortunately it’s blocking Benning’s ability to retain players this year (along with a few others) which is why it would be nice to send him along. Is it nice enough to justify going from a 2nd round pick to a first? Definitely debatable, but I think so.
Good hypothetical. |

Markstrom will sign with the Flames, or at least the Flames will drive up the price. (frank) I hate the Canucks more then the Oilers. - FlamesFan1230

Yup. Maybe 2x1.75-2M perhaps NTC 1st year if he does 3yrs to avoid arb. |

It doesn't matter what we think , trust me I see comments like this all the time and mostly agree.
Green had the choice to play anyone on the roster during the most important part of the year and he chose Sutter and Beagle over all the players like Jake Gauds Zack so I am not sure I agree that those two players are blocking the progress of the RFAs . I think players like Jake and others are blocking their own progress. I don't recall once where Motte was pulled but I can remember games where the rest of them didn't play. |

They have more ELC's to add. But if your looking for top pairing and top 6 ELC's that is rare for a contending team. Don't count TT out no one has been signed and we now know why all are held up to figure out OEL trade first. |

Thanks, appreciated.
Now regarding the PP, I agree this year was definitely better, but it also seemed as if it started to regress in the playoffs.
I'm still not sold on the coaching staff, and their ability to make in game changes, although having said that Green did change things up a little and deserves at least another season.
Special teams I'm not a fan of, hoping changes to the roster will help in that regard. - Makita
Other than Bo in tight or high slot I found they didn’t create the seams nor were accurate & quick on passing. Too often it was left to Hughes to make it happen. Brock was either non confident or trying to be a playmaker & ops keyed on Petey’s one timer. Missing the big point shot was my only knock. It ended up being too slow of a pp that the D could sit back on & clog the seams. |

Which of these two deals do people prefer for OEL?
Sutter, OJ, and a 2021 1st
JV, OJ and a 2021 2nd - boonerbuck
OEL/Dvorak for OJ/JV/Gaudette/LE/2nd |

It was a choice of playing experienced centers over playoff rookies. Doesn't mean that remains going forward. The better skilled players learn and get deployed. This is why it was so important to make the play-offs so the younger guys learn to excel the next time. |
