Man that Alex Wennberg contract is SUPER buyout friendly. 4.9m cap hit becomes 441k per for 3 years and then 891k for 3 years.

I like TT as well but he’s definitely on the backend of his career, diminishing skill level, entering free agency, and won’t come cheap for a team that already has cap issues. If TT is not retained at a reasonable cost then I think it was another questionable trade by JB.

Yup.

Dan Murphy...

Remember there are no guarantees #Canucks qualify Stecher or Virtanen because they can’t walk away from arb award under 4,538,958

———————————————————————————-

If the Canucks qualify them can they be traded or is there a certain timeframe they can’t be traded?

- Pacificgem

I think once qualified they can be traded at any point once we've hit day 1 of free agency.

Because it’s a sub 26 year old contract....I think, which makes it 1/3 instead of 2/3’s.

He's only 28? I think he's a great fit. Ideally if you could sign him to a 3 year deal.

JB paid a good price for him so yes it wouldn't be a great trade if he walks.

The Canucks will qualify Tyler Motte tomorrow and the 2 sides will continue to work towards a new deal to avoid arbitration.

So many moving parts with the flat cap the draft & free agency in such a short time & add in the e-draft juggling. There will be lots to talk about lol

Short timeframe for sure. Motte's good to keep around.

I wish he was a bigger player but Motte is a good bottom six guy.

I know. I hate myself for saying that but in this day and age it’s true. He’s a 10 year vet so he’s already played a lot of hockey.

But you are absolutely correct saying he’s a great fit because this team needs experience like his as opposed to some of the vets we already have on restrictive contracts. Get ride of the one or two deadweight players on this team and signing him is not a problem.

Not the biggest move, but a good step regardless.

Just goes to show that one or two mistakes can have long term implications in a salary cap era. No wonder GMs age so quickly. JB probably has a lifetime supply of Tums or Rolaids. lol.

Oliver Ekman-Larsson through his agent, Kevin Epp has imposed a Friday deadline for a trade to either Boston or Vancouver. “We think the best option for a trade is before free agency,” Epp told TSN. “If no deal by Friday, Oliver is staying in Arizona.”

it's my understanding that players who are pending an arbitration hearing cannot be traded.

....so, if they qualify them, they can trade them up until the player files for arbitration. conversely, qualify the player, let him file for arbitration, sign him prior to the hearing and then trade him would be the only way to trade him (if i'm clear on this.)

For the love of god, please don’t cave Jim! Walk away if it’s not a Ehrhoff for Patrick White like trade.
