It seems like the Canucks have a tremendous amount of leverage in the OEL trade talks.

- VANTEL

Maybe he is Keslering them

OEL and Grabner (buyout candidate or use on 4th line) for Eriksson, Sutter, OJ, JV, and a 1st.

JV has not been mentioned in any of the reports. If Canucks have the leverage they don't have to deal him in this one.

Even if they have leverage, they're still not going to be able to fleece Arizona. To get rid of Eriksson and Sutter in one deal would cost a bit.

We have leverage but AZ does as well. We need to move on OEL now! Not later. AZ can simply wait

The way it was reported their names came up in offers plural which doesn't necessarily mean together.

I'm guessing if it doesn't happen this weekend JB moves on.

Exactly. They don't have to trade him. Canucks need to figure out their cap situation/UFAs before making a big move like that.

The way it was reported is AZ approached Canucks so why would JB have to move on OEL when OEL is driving the AZ bus.

A 40pt 29yr old LHD for $8.25m would have a big domino effect. Many players would be shuffled to be compliant. Cernak looks like a better option.

His NMC is his big chip. Imo Arizona isn’t in the drivers seat as much as they like to be.

For giggles, nothing too serious....

New Jersey has 18 and 20 overall picks that came from Ari and Van respectively, what if Van could get those picks?

Boeser, Virtanen and Sutter to NJ for 18 and 20
18, 20, Erikson and Joulevi to Ari for OEL

Why Boeser? He has to be qualified at 7.5 million, and him being moved out ensures Toffoli can be resigned.

Why Virtanen? He will become a better player but his cost to continue developing is too high for Vancouver. He won't have a stable top 6 spot and he will cost too much for the role he provides.

Why Joulevi? He will be a good 2nd pairing defensive player in the future, but, OEL is already better than he will be in the long run.

That would essentially move out 16 million for this coming season from Van (and another 12 next year) to be replaced by the 8.25 of OEL. That extra 8 ensures Toffoli, Markstrom and Tanev can be resigned, and provide some room for depth players or promotions from the farm.

Like I said, just for giggles!

I get that the whole context of the above move is to free up cap space to re-sign current players and all but, let me get this straight?

OEL to Van

for

Boeser, Virtanen, Juolevi, 18th Overall, 20th Overall, Sutter and Erickson.

Since we keep seeing OJ's name pop up, is it because other teams value him higher than Rafferty or Rathbone, or does Benning value Rathbone and Rafferty above OJ?
- NewYorkNuck

Not sure anyone outside this site values those guys.

A solid UFA & a later D pick were good moves. Wouldn’t move either of them.

No, you can’t include the draft picks and the players from the same deal...

But why not include Baertschi, Beagle and Roussel as well, if we’re making stupid poop up anyway.

Do you believe that there is actually a NHL team that doesn't know their cap or what their plan is going into this year and next?

Do you think Canucks would have made an offer if there is no way they could navigate this?

Great to add but Bolts have not indicated they are making him available. If they do they would want picks and prospects. Something other teams out there are more flush with and on record wanting to move picks. Habs and NJ for example.
