And look how long it took to do that deal. JB should have a deadline on his offer, then move on to other business.
- VanHockeyGuy

There are other less costly options out there I think Jim Benning should explore before he pulls the trigger on a bad OEL deal. He tends to ALWAYS overpay.

Well, LE makes 4 Million with a cap hit of 6, They are paying Grabner 2 million to leave

My proposal included both in that deal. So, LE would only cost you 6 Million in 2 years of real cash, minus the Grabner buyout cost

Sutter is in the last year of his deal and could likely be flipped at the deadline, or by retaining some $$, so another asset (maybe a 3rd) and more $$ out the door

Even LE could be moved if you wanted to retain some $$ on it

There's real cash to be saved and 2 prospects that will play on ELC's or bridge deals

There aren't teams out there that can take on 8 Million and not send $$ back, at least not ones on OEL's list

Don't like OJ, ask about another guy, need a B-list prospect added, also possible

For the record I don't think Loui is going there

I'm sure he does. With the draft coming up, and the free agency right after, there's a lot to accomplish in such a short window.

I'm thinking if nothing is done by end of day Monday, they'll move on to other matters.

There’s probably so many balls in the air I have no idea what they have on their plate. A lot of it really depends on whether Markstrom and Toffoli want to stay with the team, talk is cheap, money matters, don’t kid yourself. There’s just a lot of stuff that we don’t know for sure.

He does, but that's when he's been targeting someone he REALLY wants. I don't think OEL was in their cross-hairs – the opportunity just sort of presented itself randomly.

Plus, with the indication that the Coyotes are asking OEL to expand his list of teams, that probably means that JB isn't offering them as much as they'd want. So, not an overpayment... hopefully.

Chayka (frank)ed that organization and when he realized what he was doing wasn’t working, he just quit. It’s ownerships fault for giving him free reign. Now it’s just a country club where guys go to retire. You’re going to see them exercise a full reset.

It’s always been a country club. Nothing has changed since Roenick played there.

Why was last year any better than this year? This year you can bring back the same core guys and not be forced to use Sutter Fattenberg Roussel Beagle ? They can make a lot of positive changes this year.
- VANTEL

I meant in terms of opportunity in general with having elite players on ELC’s. They’ll also likely lose one of Tanev/Toffoli/Marky for next season as well, plus a guy like Edler might get to the point where he struggles playing 20+ hard minutes every night, it’s bound to happen eventually. We’ll see if this OEL deal even happens.

I knew what you were getting at but if they lose Tanev and get OEL I think that is an upgrade . Sounds like Marky and Canucks are making traction .

If you get rid of Sutter Gaudette Motte and bring in better players then I think your team is better than last year.

Motte is a good player, exactly what the bottom 6 need.

Sutter, Gaudette, Beagle, Stecher, Benn, Fantenberg, Eriksson and possibly Roussel are the ones to get rid of...but who wants that garbage.

Apparently Markstrom wants more term, which would be foolish for a 31 year old player, if they’re talking five plus years.

Yeah . I know it is general thinking by most of the fans that it will look a lot like last year but I am one of the few that think it will look different.

We all seen what was needed in the playoffs to get to the next level.I think Canucks management seen the same things. Probably why not a lot of players have not been offered contracts yet.

100%

Chayka thought he was the smartest guy in the room because his fancy stats told him he had a team full of Crosby's and Lidstroms and if he gave them all long term deals now he would look like a genius as the Stanley Cups rolled in

In reality, he built a flawed, overpaid roster that was poorly coached and his fancy stat drafting delivered so/so results

Then he decided to jump ship when it finally became obvious, even to him

Probably was a video game kid who would screw his team up in GM mode and then just press reset when it got too tough to fix
