Potential Laine trade to Dallas.

To DAL: Patrick Laine

To WPG: Ty Delandrea, John Klingberg, #30OA, 2021 conditional first round pick (Pick is lottery protected, if Dallas misses the playoffs, they have the choice to give the Jets, the 2022 first round pick)

Next up: Detroit

- TheUltimateJet

Dallas won’t do this. Klingberg is their #2 D, and I think they just realized both how good he is, and how bad Lindell is

I stand by my statement. Hamilton is a good defenseman, but I would want anyone of the players I mentioned over Hamilton. He is not the best defenseman in the league.
- jetsnation

One could make an argument for about 5 different defencemen being the best. Hamilton had the strongest season this year

Hamilton is a good defenceman, no doubt, but not near the best. Not close! Boston-Calgary-Carolina-? H-m-m-m, why?

With one year left before he becomes a UFA, would you want the Jets to trade for him under those circumstances? Or are you talking Hamilton with extension?

I could go further back and see about this extension bit, but am too lazy.

No, the stats all show how utterly dominant he’s been for the past few seasons.
He was traded because he likes reading and going to museums over doing Coke and cheating on his fiancée.

I’d obviously want an extended Hamilton in a trade.

#10 OA could be askarov if his goalie coach khabibulin has any influence with Chevy (as with hawerchuc/Sheiffele). Bulin wall says he is a guy every gm should want, Nashville may be interested at 11 oa

Why would we draft a goalie with Hellebuyck locked in, and Berdin almost ready for the jump?

Nashville is my bet for Askarov, although hoping Detroit or Minny take him.

Would be silly, IMO, for the Jets to take him. As a GM, wouldn't take a goalie till at least the 2nd rd. There always seems to be lots of quaified goalies looking for jobs. This year is a good example.

Helly is a gem and a jet for 4 more years. Berdin could be a good starter but is not projecting as generational talent, it will likely take a few years before askarov is really ready- think carter hart. The timing may be good. If berdin does progress before then a trade can happen from position of strength. Best player available is usually the best choice, once in a while a 1st round goalie is the right thing.

I am not a scout and don’t know these kids, just sitting in my easy chair and saying it could happen.

Best player available Rexy! That's what I'm told all the time when I suggest the Jets need to draft for need this time around, you never draft for need, should always take the best player available apparently.

If Askarov is there at 10 the Jets should take him if he's the best player available, wonder what fans would think of that selection.

No! No and No!

Jets don't need a goalie, period! Hellebuyck locked up as you know. Not only that but the Jets have Berdin, and a kid named Arvid Holm, who may be the heir apparent. No need for another one with 10th pick.

18-year-old kids are all a gamble, but I would say, none more than goalies. If other teams draft best player available, Askarov may go #2 or #1. Won't be available, thank gawd.

My 24-in big screen TV may not survive if the Jets pick Askarov!

Any Hamilton deal with have you come with an extension on my book.

Taylor Hall, Max Domi, Nichuskin, Vatanen, Schultz.......and many more all decent players rumoured to be joining the 3rd or 4th new team before next year, I wouldn’t read too much into it.

A hockey friend once told "All players are traded for a reason." I am pretty sure a good portion may be team needs (salary cay, position). Others not so much.

Should we ‘pass the hat’ or start a go fund yourself so graham can get a bigger screen?

Yeah I know, was just playing devils advocate to the 'always draft the best player available' narrative, I really don't agree with it.

Shouldn't select Askarov, the Jets should be drafting for need with their 10th and 40th overall picks in my opinion.

Team depth has to be a major reason as well.
Gretzky, Teemu, Hawerchuk all played on 4 or 5 teams

Yea, this is not really a surprise. Later in their career a lot of players move around. Teemu was a little different, moved early. Mistake!

Ek says Montreal feels they have a package that Jets might take for Patrik. I don't see it unless the Habs make earlier deal for RH d-man they can include - like a good RH d-man, not a 5th or 6th d-man! And then who do they include Domi, Kotkaniemi or Szukuki ++? (excuse the spelling).
Don't see it happening.
