I'd rather dump JJ their with Murray for a conditional 7th

Me too. Not that I don't like Duclair but there would be lots of options to improve the roster in FA with and extra $3M.

Not gonna pretend there isn’t risk. I just think we’re in a cap situation where we HAVE to take the gamble. And Murray’s been average these past couple seasons to the point that he’s pretty replaceable anyways if we decide we need to get a vet backup or 1B.
- Victoro311

I definitely do agree that the cap situation limits us from keeping him. I think they will roll with Desmith or potentially Fleury (if he is bought out). I think we will need a solid backup as insurance as a just in case.

Bringing Fleury back would be a colossal mistake if either Jarry or Murray is around. The second something goes south with either one of them, the media is going to go nuts to make Fleury the starter.

I personally like the idea of having two really good goalies during a compressed season and having them split starts.

Who cares what the media says? It will be really bad if Jarry struggles or gets injured and Desmith& ?? Are the goalies.

I think its a moot point as it isn't happening though. Teams will offer Fleury $4-5M per year, he isnt signing with the Pens for $1-2M.

Haha true that, they always stir the pot. I don't think Fleury is coming back though. He can still make 4-5mil somewhere as stated above.

I don't have a problem running a Tandem, but I don't want it to be Fleury, not that I don't like him, I think it would create unnecessary pressure on Jarry. IF it was a newcomer, I don't think it would be as bad.

I think MAF has very little to do with it. Murray has been wildly inconsistent for 3 years now. Can anybody actually predict how Murray will play next season.
- madmike71

I think MAF has a lot to do with the fans reaction to him. There were people on this site and others openly cheering for Vegas to beat the Pens when those two would square off.

I'll give you a personal example. Last August, there was I guy I worked with for 14 years and he's a big Fleury fan. When he signed a new contract, I said Vegas was just stupid to give that extension and the amount to him. He hasn't spoke to me since. There is this unhealthy worship some Pens' fans have of him and they took it out on Murray.

A lot of fans conveniently forget Fluery was significantly worse than Murray is now from 2012-2014 and probably cost them a cup in that time period. The decision to keep Murray over Fleury in 2017 gets made 100 times out of 100.

Doesn’t matter who the other goalie is. You’re gonna miss the playoffs again anyways.

Jack Johnson = No Playoffs
No Jack Johnson = Playoffs

I still think it's likely, barring any major moves by MTL or FLA, that five teams come out of the Metro and I don't expect the Pens to finish lower than fifth if there's no Jack Johnson in the lineup.

Well consider the logjam of the Metro...

Canes and Islanders will likely finish higher.
The Rangers, depending on more moves, may move up.
The Caps will still be good.
The Flyers are hard to tell.

The season could hinge on one single point.

It’s really indisputable at this point how badly Johnson has negatively effected this team in the role he’s been playing the past two seasons. With how much stronger the Metro keeps getting and will be next season, if there is no change in Johnson’s ice time, it’s very conceivable we miss the playoffs.

Nah. They missed the playoffs this year chief. The NHL has a 16 team playoff and the pens failed to qualify this year.

We missed the playoffs. We didn’t miss the postseason. The play ins and round robins were considered postseason.

It’s a weird schematics abortion this season that “postseason” and “playoffs“ aren’t synonymous.

So do the Pens get an asterisks in post-season record?

I do question Fleury coming to Pittsburgh myself, but since it had been brought up by multiple Penguin writers. I figured I would at least mention him. I do believe we bring in a goalie or 2 this offseason (smaller deals). After a Murray trade our depth at Goalie doesn't really look that strong.

VAN is making it well known Sutter is available....

im not panicking... im not panicking... im not panicking...

picturing GMJR quotes...

"obviously, I like the player. I drafted him"

"I never wanted to trade him away both times I traded him away"

So Murray is likely traded in the next 5 days. Ignoring what the return might be, where do you think he end up playing next year?

I'm going with:
1. Calgary
2. Buffalo
3. Toronto
