Speaking of big name free agents, I do not know why any would sign with a California team. Proposal is to raise the state tax on those making a million dollars a year, from 13% to 16%.

If Robin Lehner signs his $5mil. X 5 year contract with Vegas (no state sales tax), he saves on state tax alone $4,160,000, in effect an extra $800,000 directly into his pocket.

Hawks need to have at least 1 heavy forecheck cruncher. Good point. If I knew I was going against a team without a big guy that could squash me, then it would be a lot less stress on my mind and I would have more confidence with the puck. Seems obvious of course, but the Hawks haven't had a heavyweight forechecker recently. Interesting as well along this line of thought is how Maroon has been signed by teams ready to win Cups

Unfortunately, right now that is Shaw. Caggiula also does that work, but he's not for sure coming back. Smith would if he could catch anyone. The Hawks could roll out John Quenneville for that, but I would prefer someone a bit more aware of how to play hockey. Hopefully Entwistle progresses quickly. From what I've seen and read about him, he could be a really good one.

Thought about the ghost angle. If they are Hawk picks, hopefully it’s not due to them never being seen in the NHL.

Nicknames or odd references
There was Sleepy Floyd a pretty good guard for a while with Houston NBA. Defense was not his thing.

Funniest name I heard: Wacey Rabbit. Might still be kicking around in the AHL

Vegas (and all Pacific division teams) play in CA quite a bit vs SJ/LA/Ana
I wonder which team optimizes home and away tax savings by playing the max amount of games in low tax states and min amount in high tax states.

I'd guess its gotta be either Tampa/Florida for home games + a division rival is also no-tax? Maybe?

to transfer all the gas and powert stations to recharging stations cause you can't buy a internal combustion engine.

And to pay for reparations even though our state was never a slave state. But lets ignore the encampment of the asian-americans during WW11.

Any visiting player has to pay alloated state tax based on how many games they play in the state, because your proportioned salary is deemed earnid in California. But I think some states allow you to offset taxes paid in other states if you are domiciled in another state?

BTW, even though I am not in that rarified tax bracket air, I am seriously (as is my company) becoming VGSHawk or NVHawk within the next few months.

You're not alone. My parents moved to AZ. Aunt, uncle and grandma to NV. My sister is looking at Mexico and AZ. Not quite sure where I'm going (insane?). My corporate HQ is in Switzerland, so that would be fun. CA is simply not sustainable for the long haul (as is).

Wherever I go, I'm still pulling for Seabrook!!

Could be, some big headwinds there. Will the NHLPA go for it? Will there be fans? Do the players get paid for 82 games or 48?. As it is based on the extension signed between the league and the NHLPA, escrow withhold is 20%. Forget for a second about how much they make compared to the majority in the US and Canada, Toews and Kane's $10.5 million contract, if you only pay them on games played they will make (before taxes) $4,917,073, before taxes, less than half the contract. Will that be enough of a haircut in players salaries for the NHL to go forward with a season? (I think the answer to that has already been answered, some revenue is better than no revenue).

Also, there is a huge difference playing in a "bubble" and not playing in a bubble. Remember the players are horny and not going to settle for the bubble again.

Beggars/choosers

I'm with you. That's why I said "unfortunately". Saad will do that, but doesn't seem to do it much. I was always surprised a guy like Maroon never got that much love in free agency.

Here's another wild angle. Does the league get additional revenue by participating in the Olympics? Convince the IOC to add hockey to the summer games. Play about 3/4 of the season before the Olympics then conclude the regular season by mid Sept, and playoffs by Dec. 1. Maybe an easing of the pandemic and availability of a vaccine by summer 2021 will resolve the attendance problem during the last part of the schedule. I assume there are a couple of hockey venues available in Tokyo and surrounding cities? Also you have to get buy in from the other world hockey associations

Barret will help in that regard too. However neither Barret or Entwhistle are heavyweights as in large say 225pd guys. Entwhistle is adept at coming away with puck from boards, he reportedly is said to have knack or skillfully successful. He was 175 earlier in junior but heavier now. Barret is a 200 pound guy (roughly) who likes to do battle but he is not full time boards guy as he is a skilled passer. He scores too but he needs work on his skating. Theo could offer more insight. Btw R Johnson would be a real warrior if he could find a spot. Just an average skater, though, so maybe he is a RW if he makes the NHL. Each team would love to have a character warrior like Johnson. Both Johnson and Soderlund i would really cheer do progress step up. Not sure how much longer Fortin is around. But he improved last season, so await if he can improve even more

The escrow withhold may bee 20%, but I think the players owe the league a ton of money on top of that, which will be repaid over several years.

As far as I can tell, the 50/50 split of HRR remains in force, with any adjustments (the escrow, above the 20%) repaid over several years.

I am disappointed after learning that Moberg is a long term projection. Hope Bowman signs him. Starts possibly in ECHL but he is "projectable."

I think you're right on that. Also I read that players are deferring an additional 10% of their salary and bonus money in 2020-21 and will have it paid back in equal installments from 2023-24 to 2025-26.

Why I would like to see if Stan could get Virtanen from the Canucks for cheap. He has power forward potential, or Josh Anderson from Columbus, but i think he would cost more in assets back.

Virtanen might be a maturity issue or maybe not. But Vacouver believe not so thrilled with him as you would want for a first round with some meaness, skill and size.
