Thought it was interesting he had them double dipping on Kaspers.

Don't qualifying offers to RFA's need to be submitted soon? Free agency is supposed be right after the draft (next week) and those not qualified will fall in that pool.

Hugo Olas Hawk goalie in 2026. Just have to find some stop gaps in the mean time.

Thought about the ghost angle. If they are Hawk picks, hopefully it’s not due to them never being seen in the NHL.

Corey Pronman's 2020 NHL mock draft - Blackhawk picks:
I love when I can go head to head with this "expert."

17. Dawson Mercer, C, Chicoutimi - QMJHL
OK IF HE IS THERE but...will he be?

46. Jean-Luc Foudy, RW, Windsor - OHL <--Again in my humble opinion, the this brother isn't the other brother. He is a PERIMETER player with speed, but is that what fits the hawks needs? I dunno. I take a bigger guy in those first two picks.

79. Kasper Simontaival, RW, Karpat - Jr A Liiga <-- I have him off the board at #62.

81. Kasper Puutio, D, Everett - WHL <- THIS UNDERSIZED defenseman is a total reach by every draft prognosticator in my humble opinion. he is a soft as my melanzane is presently. He is a 5th round om my list at #136

110. Mitchell Miller, D, Tri-City - USHL. <---I have off the board # 73
He is a short stocky dee-man who WAS a forward, but still is the most agile defenseman, but more importantly he lacks lateral quickness.

141. Hugo Olas, G, Linkoping -J20 SuperElit
He's not on my top seven rounds, BUT since he is a goalie he could get drafted...

172. Joe Miller, C, Blake - US High School He is 5' 9" and not in my top 7 rounds but someone may draft him to get bigger and develop....

Thanks, Scott, for the morning exercise before I start working on the profiles late on my list and not in the 7th.

Sometimes the obvious answer is the right answer:

Bowman felt Sikura could benefit from a change of scenery and the Blackhawks could benefit from Pirri's experience and ability.

"In looking at our team and looking at Dylan's opportunity here, it didn't probably work out the way that he had anticipated or we had," Bowman said. "I think when that happens you start calling around to see if there's a better opportunity for Dylan somewhere else, and in those conversations you look at what teams are willing to offer.

It cannot be discounted when you treat your players with respect even when you feel things didn't work out. That is why the players in the league feel like Chicago is a class act, not the league joke they were as late as 2001. If the kid gets a chanced to make and does good for him. If the Hawks do go to the playoff and fall to injuries, Pirri is there to prove he should have gotten a chance the first time.

For those of us who look into hockey pedigrees, Dawson is from the hockey hot-bed of Newfoundland. And as long as we've fired up the way-back machine of past Hawk drafts, they have picked Keith Brown and Dan Cleary who are also Newfies.

Quick thought on ideas for cap relief league-wide. Why not allow teams to LTIR players now instead of game 1 of the season? I know it impacts only a few teams -BUT it frees up money to spend in the offseason for teams and does not require additional cap rule changes. Thoughts?

You can LTIR players now, the difference is you cannot use that LTIR money to accrue the salary to have extra money at the trade deadline to do deals, Only players that are put on LTIR after the first game can be used to accrue salary. That is the simple explanation, there are other rules as to how much you can accrue based on how close to the cap ceiling you are at day one etc. etc.

Ah, thanks for the clarification. then they should suspend that rule for the next season at least. But again that may only move the needle for too few teams but would require less rule changes.

Another thing the Hawks have to consider regarding what type of rebuild or retool, is if they have another shortened season (which seems highly likely), I bet they have another play-in round, which means 8 teams will at least play a "play in round" to see if they make the playoffs. So as long as you are not one of the seven worst teams in the league, you are playing bonus hockey.

I believe the league already said (emphatically) that there will not be another play-in round.

Is that the one where Mike Smith hit on future HOF'ers Yakubov and Vorobiev with picks 10 and 11?
- HawkintheD

That is the one, not only did he screw up one pick, he screwed up two! That was a low point in Hawks nation.

They also emphatically said they were going to start in December (which definitely will not happen), and are going to play a full 82 game schedule (which likelihood now is they won't). My comment about the play in is if they have a shortened season, not if they play a full 82.

But this is who he did pick:

Blackhawks’ 2002 Draft Pick: Duncan Keith (2nd Round, #54 Overall)

Blackhawks’ 2003 Draft Picks
Brent Seabrook (1st Round, #14 Overall).

Corey Crawford (2nd Round, #52 overall)

Dustin Byfuglien (8th Round, #245 Overall)

The "worst" and second worst" draft picks in NHL history according to Pully.

Mitch Trubisky counts as two screwed up picks, the pick we used to move from 3-2 and the pick we used not to take Mahomes or Watson.

I know we have discussed size and playing heavy and board battles. Here’s my question that maybe someone more informed may know an answer. During our Cup runs we had both size and grit in: Bolland, Bickell, Big Buf (as a forward), Brouwer, Ladd, and Shaw to name a few. They actually forechecked and cycled the puck. People had to watch over their shoulder for Big Buf to come and pancake them. We have since moved away from this...and it started to happen during Q’s last few years. Is it a change in coaching “system” for puck possession....or was it the roster of players didn’t have the mentality to play this way. It’s very frustrating at times watching Hawks games when they do dump it in and then the forward skates by the defenseman who passes the puck and then the forward doesn’t finish the check and just skates by. There is no real pressure being applied it seems. Only a few players....and I think Highmore sort of fits the bill as our “Marchessault”, but maybe not as skilled. I’m hoping they do add some size/speed combo to the forwards. We do have some Dmen prospects that have size in Vlasic, Regula, & Demin that are interesting. Maybe it’s this “compete level” that we might be missing. We all know Kane isn’t going to throw around his body....but always attacking the puck and causing turnovers starts the offensive transition game, which we used to be one of the best at. I’m hoping our forward prospects coming up will bring this.
- DrewDawg

Hawks need to have at least 1 heavy forecheck cruncher. Good point. If I knew I was going against a team without a big guy that could squash me, then it would be a lot less stress on my mind and I would have more confidence with the puck. Seems obvious of course, but the Hawks haven't had a heavyweight forechecker recently. Interesting as well along this line of thought is how Maroon has been signed by teams ready to win Cups

I wonder if Bettman is dusting off the game plan from the 2013 lockout shortened season. There was a 48 game schedule which began January 19 with all games played within the conference. The playoffs were completed in late June.

NBC is televising the Olympics which are scheduled to start July 23, 2021. The playoffs would need to be done by that time so there is some wiggle room to add a few more games to the regular season, or begin play a couple of weeks later.

Could be, some big headwinds there. Will the NHLPA go for it? Will there be fans? Do the players get paid for 82 games or 48?. As it is based on the extension signed between the league and the NHLPA, escrow withhold is 20%. Forget for a second about how much they make compared to the majority in the US and Canada, Toews and Kane's $10.5 million contract, if you only pay them on games played they will make (before taxes) $4,917,073, before taxes, less than half the contract. Will that be enough of a haircut in players salaries for the NHL to go forward with a season? (I think the answer to that has already been answered, some revenue is better than no revenue).
