do you think the value isn't there because he didn't play much? honestly, I think it's probably because there are just soooooooo many goalie available right now.....supply far outweighs demand. goalies have never been that valuable to begin with (in terms of trade value) add to the mix that there are probably close to 10-12 good goalies available, and the return just isn't going to be there.

well it definitely hurts the trade value that the goalie market is so saturated

really he has much more value to the Rangers than if we were able to get a 2nd and 3rd rounder for him

Georgiev has proven to be a very solid backup, very capable of performing well when he hasn't played in 2 weeks, which is what you need from a backup

but Georgiev hasn't proven he can be a #1 goalie and that is a trade value killer

historically I think this fanbase is probably the worst in the NHL at being able to handle tough decisions

letting Giacomin go and giving the goalie reigns to JD in 1975 was actually the right decision

we just dont have the stomach for it

He appeared to be better after the restart, but relative to the rest of the team's horrible performance at that time I'm not sure if he had improved or was the same.

Nobody denying the team was dog crap. I do thinks Kakko needs a camp/preseason. At this point, no guarantee if that happens before the next season

I could careless what or how they do things with Hank. Thanks for the great years but time to move on. After the Staal trade I figured the rangers had the money they needed to get thru this year . With the buyouts , hank and smith all coming off next year the rangers would gain around 17 mil , they must need the cash this year for something .. things could get interesting soon

in Ottawa we have the opposite problem.....we're so used to losing franchise players and fan favorites now, when it happens we barely notice

my thoughts are this team is going to do something to take the negative attention away from buying out Lundqvist

it's not only going to be Lafreniere, something else is happenin

see this is not only his opinion, this is the opinion of a lot of fans who want the Rangers to make their decisions for sentimental reasons

it's why I keep going back to Hank playing in the bubble, it was the dumbest idea and it actually made things worse

the correct decision is that Lundqvist is not a capable NHL goalie any more, the last year of his contract should be bought out, and when Shesterkin can't play, Georgiev should play.

they are NOW doing the right thing

That was a fact in January. a fact in March. and it should have been in July.

The fact that Lundqvist played those two games in July and played ok just made it harder for some people to say goodbye.

There is nothing wrong with trading Georgiev if the team had holes they wanted to fill because he has good trade value. The problem is Hank will be at the end of his contract after this year and he's pretty done. And then you have a backup goaltender problem to deal with; which isn't necessarily difficult but it's stupid when you have a great solution available now.

As much as Hank loves NY when it was time to get paid it was a business. Now that he cannot justify that salary and doesn't fit in the plans it's a business. I get we'd all like a feel good ending but it doesn't happen. Didn't happen for Brodeur either and he was in his 40's.

Disagree. An offer sheet of 5 years $5 to $6.3 mill costs a 1st and a 3rd. We have had sooo many picks in the last 3 years ( and used them effectively ) we can take a year off if there is someone they REALLY want that can complete the rebuild...

Once you start to like or het used to decisions like this, you have become a jaded fan, regardless of if the buyout makes sense.
