I actually think the Sens and the Sabres are in a really good position.

The UFA market next week is going to be a bloodbath for players - guys will be begging for contracts.

Huge opportunity to sign talent at discount prices.

If the sens were smart, they should dive into the mid range UFA market. Sign a bunch of guys that can still play to maybe and extra year in contract but that could help their young players and maybe even get into the playoffs.

Mirtles piece today is on rating tradeable assets, continues to insist that trading Nylander isn't on the table for the leafs whatsoever.

I'm on the record as hesitant to commit to Pietrangelo at big money and term to begin with. If the decision is to try and fit Pietrangelo onto the cap and keep Nylander, it's a hard no from me.

It's got to be Nylander plus lower salary defender(s) OR Pietrangelo. Both means sweet (frank) all for depth and that's proven to be an ugly option.

I really dont think Pietra is an option for the leafs.

Tweet for Dr. Vera Etches - Ottawa Officer of Health:

Oh my goodness! I was dressing in the dark this morning and distracted by setting up a surprise for my boys, rushing to talk with Rob Snow on 1310 News...but I still can't believe I made it to City Hall without my skirt on under my rain jacket! Yikes! Time for another break...

Problem for both teams is they are only afloat by owners - neither are money making teams during the best of times. Forbes has Buffalo at $400 Million and Ottawa at $450 Million - before Covid. Seattle paid $650 Million for a team. Bargain hunting sure, quality mechandise - doubt it.

Nine years ago, Pegula bought the Sabres for $189M.

So not a bad return - during an era with the lowest interest rates in world history.

Gimme a minute and I will report the Sens #s.

He didn't suck, he just wasn't really at the level you want from a $4 million defenseman. Dude had no confidence.

Theoretical, never gonna happen question:

In light of Tampa’s cap crunch, what would we have to give up to get Hedman?

They have a debt of about $80 million and operating income was about $1.9 million in 2018-19. Not sure how much they lost in 2019-20 and what loss is expected this year but that capital gain as well as the franchise value will be taking a hit IMO. We'll see soon what the appetite for spending is.

What are internal numbers like? Have they managed a profit those 17 years? I would assume a team like Ottawa hasn't lost 350 million over 17 years. I would also assume how much an overall organization is worth and how much they've lost this year (and any other years they've posted operating losses) are two different things?

If my comment didn't make it clear, I don't do business for a living...

I don't see them ever trading him.

But if for some insane reason they decided he had to be a cap casualty... One would have to wonder if a budget Rielly for a couple seasons, the 1st, Robertson, Sandin... Any combination of that would grab their attention.🤷‍♂️

Sens will not survive without fans, if they were smart, which they are not, they would trade everybody.

Without digging too deep, according to Forbes - Ottawa has a debt/equity of 37% which means they have a debt of about $165 million. They also lost $21 million (operating revenue) in 2018-19. They lost much more in 2019-20. Cap room -sure, cheapo owner and losing franchise - I'm not expecting big spending from them - bargain hunting - for sure.

Interestingly the maximum fine for circumventing the Cap/Capfloor is 5 million bucks. Drop your salary to peanuts and pay the fine!

They'd probably get hit with lost picks too. Obviously not going to happen but interesting.

Headman is cost controlled over the next 5 years

Matthews would go back, but the + is because the Leafs would have to eat a contract and probably add something to make up for the cap value they're taking on.

Matthews and Robertson and some kind of draft pick for Hedman and Killorn probably
