Sorry but there’s a very limited group of people who get to opt out of all their obligations. No way the PA agrees to let a team take a pass on paying their players.
The other variable in all this is that the league paused it negotiations of a new t.v. which supposed to get going by the end of the year. They’re (frank)ed if they try to get a decent deal and they’re not playing.
I like your earlier idea if 4 or 5 Bubble divisions, including a Canadian one. Only play within your bubble and top teams play in Bubble-offs.
Late - Canada Cup
Basically what my kids junior league is doing. The team has strict protocols for off ice periods and are being tested every two weeks outside of that.
All it takes is one kid to (frank) it all up... But you either play or you don't. 🤷♂️ |

Perhaps im a bit ignorant to suggest as much... But it doesn't strike me as a big deal to have these teams set their own bubble type protocols.
They've got private jets and are more than likely renting their own hotel floors as it is. Sorry boys, you're not allowed to go out on the town and party. Fly bus game bus fly. 🤷♂️ - joel878
Well the border might be shut for a while and if things get bad p, moving around NA might be a bad idea. It really just depends on the virus. If things spike up from a fairly high baseline, I think they are going to have a hard time doing a regular schedule bb |

Yeah, I was just doing some mental olympics while driving yesterday.
Would some teams be better off paying their players a pro-rated amount, and not playing? How would that work with hockey-related revenues - I'm assuming NBC and Sportsnet would pay a little less. I don't think it would work for a number of reasons, although it would be interesting to see if the NHLPA would agree to this.
I don't think there are any real answers to how next season is going to look, and I don't blame the NHL. At this point, it's probably a waste of time to be planning anything.
Anyone here playing men's hockey this year? How is that going?
A former teammate and I were chuckling about that on the weekend - the dressing room is 99% of the fun of hockey. If there's no dressing room, I'm not interested in playing. |

Yes, my comment should have included the idea that I believe you need a heavily modified schedule to be successful with that plan.
4 regions would make the most sense, could modify it to the point of having one winner come out of each region and bubble for the final four. Team protocols are then in play for travelling within your region.
Im not a specialist by any stretch but it seems achievable to a degree. |

Northern Ontario. And apparently the Ontario government felt that plan was the best one they had been presented with to date.
Everyone had to quarantine prior to arriving, and arrive with a negative test result, then quarantine for another stretch after arriving.
Yeah northern Ontario is a fairly easy place to pull that off. |

We were playing roller hockey for quite a while.. Now with the OC opening... We're playing on the ice... It's fine really .. we all have kids and know each other.. Some guys have declined and others show up.. really just like normal... only we don't have to settle for midnight ice time like usual... |

men's leagues are back up in running in AZ. I played in one pickup game. pretty normal. some wear masks in the dressing room. seems rather pointless.
my kid has been playing since july. he's started 3 practices a week in Sept; 2 of them shared ice with 40 kids on the ice + coaches.
haven't heard of a single case of covid at the rink. |

But I'm not surprised, baseball always comes up with the weirdest stats.

Nailed it. And, of course, that's just scratching at the surface... once you go past the event horizon, there's simply no returning from the black hole of what BR offers. I've lost many days to that site without even realizing it. |

I'm no longer an avid Blue Jays fan (the 1980s teams were my jam), but I am a bandwagon jumper - I'll cheer for them in the playoffs.
But let's not delude ourselves that this was a good team.
They finished 3rd in their division, and that's only because Boston is historically bad.
I have great sympathy for them - tough to be in a division with the Bosox and Yankees. - Atomic Wedgie
they were good'ish. but also, there was little expectation. Kinda like the 2017 Leafs.
its good to see results this quickly in a rebuild |

Except that Hagg hits a helluva lot more than Dermott and blocks significantly more shots.
Hagg > Dermott.
I'd be surprised if the Leafs offered Travis anything more than 1.1-1.2M. They better not! |

Do you realise there would be 0 companies in drugs and vaccine business if all would be given out at 0 margin? - MaximusAurelius
Such a dumb and conflated statement.
Apple/iPhone can charge what it wants but CANNOT stop the rest of the world's tech companies from building and selling competitive phones for 20 years.
Every new drug gets a "free from competition" period allowing them to overcharge sick people a sh1t ton of money...and they have it for 20 fu2king years per product.
Generic drugs and competition in the Pharma world goes a long way in keeping the price down but not until years upon years of exclusive price gauging of sick people by the Big Pharma the created the drug/treatment.
Big Pharma makes WAY more than its share of profit. Fu3k Big Pharma.

A friend was telling me (so I don't know if it is true or not) that the NBA's bubble was more than twice as expensive.
My wild guess (which is as good as anyone's wild guess) is a limited season (say 48 games - maybe a little more) in four divisions (one of them Canadian) - maybe some out of division play within a bubble, but I doubt that.
Then another playoff bubble, which nobody wants, but I can't see how they can do it any other way. - Atomic Wedgie
Rumours were the NBA was reserving the Disney Bubble but the players got wind of it and were adament they wouldn't go back.
I heard on a radio show that both the NHL and NBA bubbles were difficult on the mental health of the players.
The other option for the players is to not play hockey and collect a bunch of money anymore. Or they try to expand the bubbles.
I like the idea of multiple bubbles and maybe include some family.
