I wouldn't want to be on the receiving hand of one of his crosschecks in the ribs.
Only crap those look like they hurt.

Or one of his shots.
I'm a freaking magnet when I play. I'm not good at blocking shots, I'm good at getting hit by them. There's a difference. |

Kind of hoping we get that out of AP. Smart, good hockey players find a way to remain effective 35+, as long as they have tools beyond speed (cough, Marleau).
I think AP has that, but I'm concerned that he's not the answer, but an answer nonetheless, mostly because of his usage over the last couple of years and how he's more Rielly than Muzzin and Paryako is the guy we really want (who's very likely untouchable). - gravyface
Except for the Doughty, Subban, Karlsson, Keith, Seabrook, Burns types...
Those guys are dropping off in a hurry. |

Be great if it happens. Still like Ryu going game 1 most.
Sets up the rest of the playoffs the way it needs to be for them to succeed. - GreatGigInTheSky
Do you know if Ryu is completely ready to go? He’s only getting into one game anyway. |

Remember how Wedgie was all pessimistic about the 2020-21 season, and everyone called him an alarmist? - Atomic Wedgie
I'm using the CFB template for Hockey... No leagues or games in July was the prevailing wisdom... Everyone was so sure of it.
Now all 5 power conferences are back and playing.. Fans in the stands.. Some cancellations for sure.. But overall a rousing success. And CFB has way more people involved than does Hockey... so not only do I think it's doable.. but going to happen right around 1st of the yr... |

Didn't Wedgie also say that the RTP would fail in the second round of the playoffs? - Leafs43
I don't recall saying that - at least not once the bubbles were announced.
I'm quite frankly amazed at how well MLB did - so I'm happy to admit I was wrong on that front.
Football will be interesting. I'm curious as to why the NFL seems to be having more success than college football. But there's still a long way to go before declaring it a success. |

Money.
Fining coaches 100k and the team 250k in week two just for not wearing their mask enough on the sideline sets quite a precedent.🤷♂️ |

You missed the news. Pandemic is over. Pfizer announced everything is safe now.
Friedman going on Saturday about League not wanting to bubble because it’s too expensive. I guess they have lots of other options. |

They won themselves a playoff birth in spite of this manager.
He has literally no idea what he's doing. Even the guys calling the games question the things he does. Which is very rare but welcomed. |

neither the coach or the front office should get any credit, they both suck. I am still searching for who should get some credit..but I will give some to anthopolous who left in 2016...because I like him - Jays fans

The NHL has an international border, which will not be open. That really complicates things.
Maybe 4 divisions - one of them Canadian teams only.
The MLS soccer teams are kinda interesting - Toronto FC is now just sorta wandering around the US - playing their "home games" in Connecticut - and yes, apparently they are playing Brass Bonanza as their goal song.
I was trying to wrap my head around if it would be possible for some small-market NHL teams to simply opt out of next year - and return when fans are allowed. I don't see how that could actually happen - it gets too complicated with player salaries, but if anyone wants to propose something, it could be a fun exercise on the 'buzz this afternoon. |

If you want to break these elite big minute defenders into two groups... The ones that are dropping off fairly quickly after 30, and the ones who are still studs at 35+, it takes about 90 seconds of looking into it to realize one group has a lot more company than the other.
AP is a lotto ticket, who knows which group he's in. But history suggests you lose more than win there... And you better know that going in. |

Not sure. They're saying he might need another day of rest but if that's the case then that should've been done a week ago at his last start.
Only one game in the series is irrelevant, though. If they want to succeed in the playoffs, he has to start as many games as possible. Starting him game 1 does that. |

A friend was telling me (so I don't know if it is true or not) that the NBA's bubble was more than twice as expensive.
My wild guess (which is as good as anyone's wild guess) is a limited season (say 48 games - maybe a little more) in four divisions (one of them Canadian) - maybe some out of division play within a bubble, but I doubt that.
Then another playoff bubble, which nobody wants, but I can't see how they can do it any other way. |

Gibby was great. He actually knew how to manage the game. Montoyo is just pulling poop out of a hat and going with it. |

I'm no longer an avid Blue Jays fan (the 1980s teams were my jam), but I am a bandwagon jumper - I'll cheer for them in the playoffs.
But let's not delude ourselves that this was a good team.
They finished 3rd in their division, and that's only because Boston is historically bad.
I have great sympathy for them - tough to be in a division with the Bosox and Yankees. |

Perhaps im a bit ignorant to suggest as much... But it doesn't strike me as a big deal to have these teams set their own bubble type protocols.
They've got private jets and are more than likely renting their own hotel floors as it is. Sorry boys, you're not allowed to go out on the town and party. Fly bus game bus fly. 🤷♂️ |

My complaint about the front office is they fail hard on capitalizing on their assets. Everything else they've done has been good or very good.
EDIT: Ok, I guess also their choice of Manager is a point of complaint, too. |

Also Baltimore sucks.
But the Jays do have 3 very good pitchers, one of which is incredible. That helps them win games. |

Sorry but there’s a very limited group of people who get to opt out of all their obligations. No way the PA agrees to let a team take a pass on paying their players.
The other variable in all this is that the league paused it negotiations of a new t.v. which supposed to get going by the end of the year. They’re (frank)ed if they try to get a decent deal and they’re not playing.
I like your earlier idea if 4 or 5 Bubble divisions, including a Canadian one. Only play within your bubble and top teams play in Bubble-offs.

Yes it is a nightmare once you factor in the added layers. I've been dealing with policy creation regarding this at work for 6 months now, I work on a site where people are still coming into the country from Europe, the south Pacific, the Caribbean. Fact of the matter is you have to pick a line somewhere.
Because there is no way to ensure there is zero chance of transmission outside of locking everyone up, even the bubble had potential to go south... You had guys getting uber eats non stop.
I was in 4 airports last week, one of our policies is requesting people get tested prior to returning to work if travelling out of the province. The lady says just so you know... If you contracted the virus it may not show up because you travelled so recently, or it may show up as a false positive. Well... The (frank) am I doing here then. But... I get the negative and return to work. 🤷♂️ |
