I suspect that a few of the cash-strapped teams will do nothing in the early days of free agency - just sit and wait.

No point in signing guys before you know what next season will look like.

If you aren't a contender, it's probably better to just keep your powder dry.

Jt will be ok, Lundqvist gets bought out and Learfs sign him for 2 yrs x $2 million, pick up Brendan Dillion for $2.5 million AAV and kick ass and take names. Trade Freddy for a couple of seconds and pick up Shakir Mukhamadullin with one of them.

Is any goalie the Leafs get really that much better than Freddy is? Like say Matt Murray for example? Kuemper gets hurt quite a bit. Goalies are so up and down. It's an inexact science forecasting how good or bad they'll play from one season to the next. Look at Binnington. He wins the Cup. Gets a big contract extension and then poops the bed in the playoffs.
