I’d argue Both are faster than Grant - ClaudeFather
We're talking about the same Nate Thompson, right? Nate "Offensive Black Hole" Thompson? |

Yes haha, and I don’t expect him to be back. You are setting the bar quite low in comparing Grant, would not like to see him back. Although I wouldn’t be mad strictly due to the Suzuki head tap. |

Grant was actually pretty effective during his post-TDL run, but seemed to disappear during the playoffs. I'm not saying he's a speedster out there, but he at least has some puck skills and is decent of faceoffs. I would also agree that he's better off as a 4C, but I just don't think there's any viable options for 3C that the Flyers can fit right now. |

Personally I will be disappointed if One of Frost/Patrick don’t fill that roll. |

Then you make a hockey trade to address it. |

Okay. What's your proposal? Again, don't just say, "Make a trade," give me a viable trade that will fill the hole without creating a new one. |

I'm not sure why we would not re-sign Elliott unless he was asking for ridiculous money or term. Cahta Haht fully established himself as our #1. Hart is comfortable with Moose and, as he proved this year, Elliott can play those limited games successfully. |

Agreed. As long as a fair deal for both side can be agreed upon, re-signing Elliott is a no brainer. |

I was never a big fan of Lapointe or Ranheim (forgot he actually played here for 3 years). Betts was great until his shoulder fell apart. Lappy was great for his 1 year. Powe was fun because you could just yell "POW" whenever he hit someone. Manderville was good but went like 200 games without a goal, which is unheard of. Dowd and elder Read were good, but didn't stand out.
There aren't any more Lappy/Betts types, and the game has generally phased them out where you have to be able to do more than just play good defense without a transition game, for better or worse. - jmatchett383
I couldn’t disagree more and if I’m wrong about this being true that players of the passed like Blair Betts and Ian Laperriere are being phased out (news to me), NHL teams are wrong for doing this. Betts and Lappy were easily the best penalty killing pair I’ve seen on this team and when Lappy went down, Powe easily slotted in and that pair wouldn’t skip a beat.
I think the islanders have a bottom six we should be envious of. Leo Komarov, Cal Clutterbuck, Matt Matt, Martin, JG Pageau. Like this is a really great mix of toughness, grit and can play most roles. |

Players with the size/mobility combo who are good on the forecheck, play physical without taking penalties, and can get you 20+ points on your bottom six aren't irreplaceable but they're also not as readily available at the snap of a GM's fingers as you suggest.
Among Pitlick, Laczynski and Sandin, it's Pitlick who is the best skater, for example. - bmeltzer
yeah folks saying it is easy to replace Pitlick need to look again. The speed alone, the Flyers don't need to subtract speed from the lineup, they need more. |

I'd say Brindy and Podein were better than Betts and Lappy, but they were definitely near the top.
But I mean come on...Paul Ranheim? Kent Manderville? Those guys were dime-a-dozen players (nickel in Manderville's case). Were they the "good glue" types? I'm sure. But calling Paul Ranheim the backbone of a team? Come one dude. |

think he would take a little cut? I think the goalie market will have plenty of options, for Elliot to get another year and stay in the same city would be a win win. Maybe 1.5 for a year.

A healthy Patrick and Frost having success on the wing and the team takes a step forward |

Let’s see if anyone interesting is bought out. Surprised with the rumor that Ryan will be bought out there is not one that has Philly interested already. |

Simple question do you think there are trades out there to be made for a 3rd line center, yes or no?

the Flyers coming into this season will have an eye on the playoffs. Don't overlook making the playoffs but they have the talent and the goalie to make the playoffs. Do they have enough talent to let Frost fail a little and be better by the playoffs. My guess is Frost comes in being in great shape. He wont have the attention to detail that Farabee has but I do think the upside is there. No doubt the Flyers need a skill infusion and quickness or speed. |

Yeah that is so true. Any trade would need to be equal salary or the other team takes salary. Flyers have pretty much zero cap space available after they resign RFA's and Elliot. |
