Best NHL D man of all time. JMO. Sorry Mr. Orr, you didn't stand the test of time. - bixll
My dad (Rangers fan) always tells me that Lidstrom couldn't carry Bobby Orr's jock strap. đ
Orr was before my time so I can only go by what I saw. Lidstrom is the best defenseman I've seen and I'm admittedly biased.
But historically many hockey fans believe that Bobby Orr is the best player of all time. No one says this about Lidstrom. If Orr hadn't been forced to retire at 29 due to his knee injuries, he likely plays another decade and wins more Norris trophies and Cups. We'll never know. âšī¸ |

Sand paper! Moar grit! Coleman and Goodrow are the only reasons why Tampa is 2 wins away from winning the Cup! Point, Kucherov, Cirelli, Palat, Hedman, Sergachev and Vasilevski have nothing to do with it! - gergeswillems

Back when Holmstrom played any player screening the goalie really had to pay a price. He'd face butchers like Pronger and Hatcher taking baseball swings at their legs. Cross checking their backs every second.
Now any player can screen a goalie with no consequences. Courage is no longer needed. Funny story about Holmstrom. He comes to training camp and Scotty Bowman asks him why he's wearing #96. Holmstrom answers "It's the year I was drafted." Bowman tells him it might be the last year he plays. đ

I did watch him. He was awesome, no question. But I add in career length to my Best Ever assessment. JMO. I know a lot will not agree, don't care. |

I used to laugh growing up when everyone used to rip off what Don Cherry said (word for word) the night before. "Those Red Wings will never win a Stanley Cup with those Russian players. Euros don't care about winning Stanley Cups. They're too soft!" đ

The first time I saw Holmstrom play I couldn't believe he was in the NHL. He was such an awful skater. But he paid the price in front of the net and he just kept coming back for more punishment. Unfortunately he gained a reputation from the refs.
Because opponents and opposing coaches whined so much about his "interfering" the Red Wings had alot of goals called back even when there wasn't any interfering at all. Homer was a beauty though! đ |

I love nights when a superstar gets a lot of points, but he'd show a highlight of a 4th liner making a hit while playing 6 minutes and claiming taht got them the win.
