You are taking one decent season and declaring him a good defenseman. Lol do you not remember doing this same mental gymnastics routine for the last 2 seasons of JJ? - Feds91Stammer
I think what keeps eluding Barnaby is the idea of asset management. The Penguins didn't need to add a left-handed defenseman, especially a third-airing LD; they have three if you include POJ. Regardless of JJ, they still had a surplus when we have deficiencies elsewhere that are more pressing. |

Never tried injecting, but fat cap always up. You want those lovely flavors dripping through the meat. With the fat cap down, it just falls away and I feel like you get a drier product. - Rinosaur
Yeah was planning going fat cap up. Just have seen some suggesting to have it facing down if heat source is down. But I’d be completely indirect anyways. |

I thought about the heat source when you asked, but I still think no matter what you go cap up. You can always flip it at some point if you feel it's getting too much contact.

It's a low tier trade that will have little impact above messing up finances in a couple of years. Hornqvist was no longer all that useful on the ice beyond presence as a third-line quality player who pots a few powerplay goals when given an opportunity. Matheson is a third pairing D with a less than desirable contract but as another user pointed out. Would you rather have a younger(ish) D with the $4.5? or be paying a declining Hornqvist $6m?
I'm guessing on the salaries but the point still stands. Not a great trade but not a dumpster fire deal either. - Pharos34
Well for one it’s 6.1m for a 3rd pair d and 4th line wing vs 5.3m for a 3rd line wing pp specialist. |

What style do you prefer? I’m probably gonna go more Memphis style unless I decide to do a more carnitas styled pork. |

That's fine to state. I am not happy he is a 3rd pairing d making as much as he is either. JR believes he can play in the top 4 if needed. I think I would rather him with his potential to play in the 3rd pairing then us sign Tanev to a bloated 4-5 million contract for the 3rd pairing. I also believe if we get hit with the injury bug again. That he would get the nod over JJ for a second pairing spot. - 123Kid
JR got lucky with Schultz... and a miss on pretty much everyone else. He shouldn't have the right to keep making risk moves like this |

You do know defensemen take more time to grow their games at this level right? Before you say something I'm not talking about JJ lol I do believe Matheson will be good for us with Reirden around. |

If JR was actually telling the truth that someone will play on the right side, then I'm completely flipping the pairs:
Dumo/Letang (This stays for obvious reasons)
Matheson/Marino
Pettersson/JJ
Look, if they all stay it will be gross regardless, but I think this is the least gross. |

Yeah it’s called the aging curve and 26 year old defenseman with 4 full nhl seasons are what they are. There’s no untapped potential. |

You can only hope that the next team said player goes to has a role and system more suitable for how they play, i.e. Schultz & Daley.

Why? Is he the new D-man whisperer now?
Maybe if Trotz was the coach I'd have a bit more faith in a 26 year old getting a lot better.
Now it does happen, Scuds was a good d-man "the piece" for only about 3 season and wasnt good until he was 29. Dumo didn't really look like Dumo until 25. Its extremely rare though.

Atrocious. I honestly doubt that's what happens. I'm sure either Petts or Dumo are on their way out.

Not even gonna pretend it could be JJ... maybe... saddled with someone we aren't thinking. Not Murray... lets go with JJ and Simon to a team that wants to try and round out an offensive heavy duo of a top 6 line?
Yeah... grasping at straws... bite me. |

Dumo was probably NHL ready at 22 but vets get 7000 chances before they are removed from the lineup. |
