I'd take a reduced return for Murray if JJ gets moved. - madmike71
I’d be extremely happy just to get a $3-4M cap space out of this trade lol |

God I'm so tired of the cherry picked stats from RW. He won't even post his SKATR chart or his transition charts because he has to cherry pick the ones that support his bias.
It doesn't mean Matheson is great, just be fair with all data that's out there.
And won't even ackowledge that this could be setting up for getting rid of Jack Johnson which we know would be an eruption of semen he's been holding in for 2 years. - YouMeAndDupuis9

I never seen Matheson play. How did he get that good if a contract if he wasn't decent? Does he hit? Can he distribute the puck? Run the powerplay? - nateca44
World Championships for Canada:
Best defenseman and gold medal in 2016;
Silver medal in 2017.
That’s around the time he signed his actual deal. |

Why does everyone care so much about this contract being 6 years?
It could be 100 years, only the next 3 matter
In 3 years he'll be a 29 year old defenseman with 3 years left on his deal. It isn't like that's not moveable
I know a bunch of us had Hornqvist already on a plane to Seattle, but there's also a chance that GMJR had already talked to Francis about it and Francis told him he wasn't interested in him for the Expansion Draft |

Exactly. Next 3 years is what matters now. Hörny wasn’t cutting as 33yo, $5.3M 3rd line winger anymore anyway. If he can’t be on the top 2 lines and play with the speed coaches wanted, no reason to keep him. |

Good points, but I don't know why JR would be talking to Francis about Horny. It's not like we need to bribe them to not take someone else like we had to with Vegas.
It should be interesting to see who gets exposed next year out of Petts and Matheson. This assumes we are going the 7-3 route instead of 4-4. Very good chance whoever it is gets taken.

I think the idea was GMJR was hoping that they would take Horny, as a way to clear an aging, overpaid player off the roster with no salary takeback
If Francis said No Bueno, then that's all the more reason GMJR got what he could today vs waiting for Horn to further regress or injured and have the contract be harder or near impossible to move

I got the 12.5" for $65 on Amazon. I've used it a couple of times so far and got a great crust on a ribeye. They're great for eggs. - Rinosaur
Yeah, it cooks fantastic, especially for steaks, I think mine is a 14" though it seems bigger. Just so heavy and so big I can't even fit it in the oven if I want to finish a steak in there. |

Well we have Matheson now. I'm going to stay positive on him even if I don't like the trade and am going to miss Hornquist badly.
Eagerly awaiting the next move though. I dont know if JR realizes it, but it is good to have guys on the team with right shots. Out of our forward group we now have only Rust and Kapanen, dont we? 2/12.
Maybe Legare and Poulin get full time roles this year? |

Lafferty and Sceviour aka "Savior" are also righties, but they don't count. Poulin is a lefty, but I don't know if you were still talking about handedness. I almost expect Poulin to get a full time role since as of now we don't have any cap left and very few ways of moving cap.
I agree with your first statement 100%.

We currently have 11 forwards signed with 10 of them as of now ready to start the season. Not sure what they are gonna do with Lafferty or Simon. Are they gonna leave 2 spots open for O'Conner, Poulin and Legare to fight for? This is also assuming Ruth doesn't bring in any more players via trade. I don't think Murray will bring a player and I'm hoping JJ is packaged with him so that return would be around a 6th round pick. |

Our scouts had to have seen something in both players for them to tell JR it was a good deal to move on. I hope JJ and Murray get moved. I am also hoping our top 6 and top 4 d stays relatively the same. Unless we add Pietrangelo that is. |

So the top 6 is set, and here's what I think the bottom 6 is right now:
Simon??? - McCann - Tanev
Lafferty??? - Blueger - Sceviour
Who knows what happens with Simon and Lafferty. They both looked like crap this year, especially Lafferty. I could see both spots being left open. If Legare made it, I think it would mean Tanev moves to LW, but all of this is a long shot. |

Oh yeah, 14” is a big (frank)in pan. The 12” is big enough and honestly the 10” probably would have been fine. |

Mike Matheson's eight goals last season were the most among all Panthers defensemen, while seven of them came at even strength.
Only 17 defensemen in the NHL had more even-strength goals than Matheson in 2019-20.
Good skater, good shot and bad decision making at times. Sounds like another offensive defenseman who takes chances, like a worse Letang. He can block shots too. |

Take aways from DK's articles on the trade.
-Hornqvist didn't want to leave Pittsburgh
-Matheson potentially may play on the R side since there is a log jam on the left side.
-Matheson is great at forcing takeaways and lead Florida defensemen in this stat.
-Matheson has a bunch of giveaways
-Matheson mostly played PK with Florida and Colton did as well.
-Colton was a PK specialist for Florida and can play center if needed, but JR reports he would be a RW.
-There is a potential that JR is looking to add more offense from our Defenseman which is one big reason for the move.
-It almost seems like JR was surprised that Matheson was available and he seems happy we obtained him. |

Everyone forgot about Aston-Reese. Are we ready to move on from him? I'd deal him with Murray if anyone takes Jacko with them. |

What about Laine? I think he would be the absolute perfect fit of need for the Pens. Would be a perennial 50 goal guy.
Petterson and Rust would both fit needs for the Jets. Tack on Poulin and a 1st, would it get you Laine? Would you make that trade?
I'm grasping for straws at what JRs play is next. |

He loses the puck and steals it back lol
In my mind he's trying to bring another Schultz in terms of production.
Sceviour was a guy I (and some here) wanted on the Pens like 4-5 years ago lol I don't know how he's now.

Another case of outbidding himself for players he thinks other GM's will jump all over, but in reality, couldn't care less. |
