This is what he does. He's really good at building from nothing, but he holds on to the same pieces for too long and once things start falling apart he tries to trade his way out of it with worse and worse pieces.

Matheson is our second highest paid defenseman and has the longest contract on the team. His contract will expire right around when Malkin turns 40. They better be right about this.

Exactly, we didn't need a JJ replacement. We had a couple of those. I think the plan is to play Matheson with Marino and hope he starts pushing play and creating offense while Marino covers for him.

Pettersson is likely gone. Some people likely are fine, but it can and probably will get much worse.

The other thing is that Florida is one of the teams that could have absorbed all of Horny's contract without sending any salary back (or very little such as just Sceviour). If they were really interested in Horny, did JR explore this option? I would have rather done that, sending them a 3rd or lower draft pick / prospect if you think Horny has negative trade value.

Interestingly, Horny, at 33, is the oldest Panther forward by 5 years!

And Rossi believes Dumoulin is the next guy out the door.

He was and did and also said it in the Athletic. However he made it a point to say it was just a hunch he had and he had no sources telling him this. Is logic was Dumoulin would vet the best return and be the biggest change GMJR might make. Decide what you will about that logic.

He didn't say what condition his shorts would be in. You never know, he might get so excited that JJ is gone that he soils himself.
