You can change it up and try something other than the four major North American sports. How about wrestling? The Japanese Grand Sumo Aki Basho (15 day fall tournament) is about to finish on Sunday (technically Saturday since they're almost a day ahead of us).

I like it because it's easy to follow (once you understand the basics); and, after watching for the past few years, for each watched bout, there is always some new subtlety to be learned and appreciated. I really like that there is no weight classification. There was already a bout in this current Basho where one rikishi outweighed another by 100 kilograms (220 pounds)! And the lighter rikishi won the bout.

Links:
• Japan Sumo Association: http://www.sumo.or.jp/En/
• NHK World highlights: https://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/en/tv/sumo/ (Good source for learning about the sport by going over all the category links at the top: "Basics", "Sumopedia", "Techniques", et cetera)
• NHK World live coverage: https://www3.nhk.or.jp/nh...d/program/video/sumolive/

If you get NHK World Japan with your cable/sat provider, the channel shows the Makuuchi (top division) recorded highlights daily and airs the tournament live on its final day (beginning Sunday 9/27 at 3:30am EDT). Currently, Day 12 highlights are now being aired at least a couple more times (into Friday AM). Day 13 highlights' first airing will be on Friday, 9/25, at 12:30pm EDT (also with a number of re-airings into the Saturday AM). Check the 2nd link above for all the details (and also your local listings through your on-screen guide, if applicable).

Tachiai.org is a good blog for the sport:
• Here's its entry today about the Yusho (championship) race for the Aki Basho: https://tachiai.org/2020/.../aki-storylines-day-12-2/
• Its highlights for today's (yesterday's) Day 12 of the 15 day tournament: https://tachiai.org/2020/.../aki-day-12-highlights-3/
• And here's the entry for tomorrow's (today's Day 13) predictions: https://tachiai.org/2020/.../24/aki-day-13-preview-3/

So... Care to make any predictions? Which rikishi (in the Makuuchi, not the lower divisions) do you think will win the Yusho? Right now the co-leaders (10 wins, 2 losses each) are Takakeisho, Shodai, and Tobizaru. The last one is my favorite because of his being a rookie (recently promoted from the Juryo division) and thus is kind of an underdog. Most rookies are happy with getting their kachi-koshi (winning record of at least 8 wins) for their first top-division tournament.

The only downer so far for this tournament is that the current Yokozuna, Hakuho, is not participating due to an injury he suffered during the previous basho in July.

And hey, if you don't care to deal with the current basho because it's almost over, the next one will come in November, from the 8th to the 22nd, and after that in January, from the 10th to the 24th (there are 6 tournaments per year, every two months).

Interesting, thanks for the links. I’m going to check it out.
