I’m certainly not opposed to promoting from within and giving one of those guys a shot. But can’t help but wonder what AV & his staff will think of those guys since their AHL season was stopped months ago. Have those guys been playing any meaningful hockey since then? I honestly don’t know. I would love for one of them to come into camp and take the job.
- Big_E_88

The entire thing should be interesting, I would expect some expanded rosters for the season to keep guys around and on the ice.

I’d stay away from that. I don’t like taking 7 point games.

Bill,

Any chance Mikka Koivu could be an option for that 3c role or will he likely get priced out. He was there in Minn with Fletcher so there is familiarity. Would he make sense on something like a 1 year 2.5 million deal? At 37 i can't see much more for him. And if Patrick is healthy maybe he can some wing.

- J35Bacher

God no! Koivu is cooked. I'm glad you can't see much more for him because 2.5M is a ridiculously drastic overpayment. Maybe as a veteran 4C for a vet minimum.

It's going to be a buyers market. There are going to be a bunch of players left unsigned heading into camp. Pitlick might be one of them. There could be bargains available.

If we still have the cap space, I’d rather do a vet minimum for Thornton.

I think he’s done if the Sharks don’t bring him back. Hard to picture him anywhere else.

That said stranger things have happened.

It surely won’t be a mediocre flyers team. Colorado if they had any interest or whoever he thinks is very close

Roussel from Vancouver another guy would look good in the bottom 6

It sounded like he might like one last kick at the can. Who knows. I just don’t see him back with the Sharks.

So probably no one mentions Pietrangelo because he probably re-signs with the Blues and it seems like such a long shot for everything to break right to make room to fit under the cap. Or maybe this year just has us dreaming less. I’d like to point out that he would be a very nice fit and would surely be welcomed in Philly.

My prediction for the draft: Fletch leans even more into drafting US players with not being able to scout anyone else since March. We come out of the first two rounds with one of (if not both of) Colangelo/Kleven

Who knows what Arizona will do, what about goligoski for ghost. Th polish guy has only 1 year left on his deal. Can def help more than Ghost. Arizona gets a cost controlled reclamation project.

I’ve seen a few mocks with us taking Peterka. I would be fine with that pick. Wallinder sounds like a bit of a project but with pretty high upside from what I understand.

The only player projected to go in the late 1st I’m weary about is Gunel. Sounds like all the skill is there but he’s been described as being completely passive in the physical aspect of the game and I don’t think you can easily cut it as player in the league like that anymore.

PICK OF THE DAY... after wasting last 2 days on stupid baseball well go back to nfl to get back on winning track as nfl gives easy pick of the week Thursday. Take the under 48 tonight. Dropping a $1000 of my winnings tonight on this game. About to be up $2400. Jump on board peoples. Easy money and you’re welcome. 3-2 for the week about to be 4-2

You can change it up and try something other than the four major North American sports. How about wrestling? The Japanese Grand Sumo Aki Basho (15 day fall tournament) is about to finish on Sunday (technically Saturday since they're almost a day ahead of us).

I like it because it's easy to follow (once you understand the basics); and, after watching for the past few years, for each watched bout, there is always some new subtlety to be learned and appreciated. I really like that there is no weight classification. There was already a bout in this current Basho where one rikishi outweighed another by 100 kilograms (220 pounds)! And the lighter rikishi won the bout.

• NHK World highlights: https://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/en/tv/sumo/ (Good source for learning about the sport by going over all the category links at the top: "Basics", "Sumopedia", "Techniques", et cetera)
• NHK World live coverage: https://www3.nhk.or.jp/nh...d/program/video/sumolive/

If you get NHK World Japan with your cable/sat provider, the channel shows the Makuuchi (top division) recorded highlights daily and airs the tournament live on its final day (beginning Sunday 9/27 at 3:30am EDT). Currently, Day 12 highlights are now being aired at least a couple more times (into Friday AM). Day 13 highlights' first airing will be on Friday, 9/25, at 12:30pm EDT (also with a number of re-airings into the Saturday AM). Check the 2nd link above for all the details (and also your local listings through your on-screen guide, if applicable).

Tachiai.org is a good blog for the sport:
• Here's its entry today about the Yusho (championship) race for the Aki Basho: https://tachiai.org/2020/.../aki-storylines-day-12-2/
• Its highlights for today's (yesterday's) Day 12 of the 15 day tournament: https://tachiai.org/2020/.../aki-day-12-highlights-3/
• And here's the entry for tomorrow's (today's Day 13) predictions: https://tachiai.org/2020/.../24/aki-day-13-preview-3/

So... Care to make any predictions? Which rikishi (in the Makuuchi, not the lower divisions) do you think will win the Yusho? Right now the co-leaders (10 wins, 2 losses each) are Takakeisho, Shodai, and Tobizaru. The last one is my favorite because of his being a rookie (recently promoted from the Juryo division) and thus is kind of an underdog. Most rookies are happy with getting their kachi-koshi (winning record of at least 8 wins) for their first top-division tournament.

The only downer so far for this tournament is that the current Yokozuna, Hakuho, is not participating due to an injury he suffered during the previous basho in July.

And hey, if you don't care to deal with the current basho because it's almost over, the next one will come in November, from the 8th to the 22nd, and after that in January, from the 10th to the 24th (there are 6 tournaments per year, every two months).

And I’ll be honest. With three kids now I can’t track or have the time to research much about them. So yeah I was going by the lists.

It all seems to change a little come draft day. Who knows. Maybe one of the others dropped due to who knows.

Not to mention no one has really seen any of these guys play in months. I just hope they make a decent choice and don’t completely whiff on their 1st round pick.

Yes. Gulhe and Barron are also intriguing. I do think we will draft another d man for some reason. I
Either that or get your speed demon.

And agree with your above statement.

Definitely dont think they got better. They traded a guy who stands in front of the net and occasionally tips the puck in, for a defenseman who stinks at defense and is on a horrible contract. JR just double downed on his Jack Johnson signing. IMHO... bad for them...good for rest of metro.
