In the Athletic Crow overlooked on the UFA market. Not sure if Burnside didn’t consider him because he feels he’ll be back in Chicago or just didn’t consider him like many have for the better part of the last decade.

For his lack of effort I rated Burnside’s article the “Meh” which it rightly deserved.

I think they are building for the future but need more Saads not less. If someone wanted to ridiculously overpay for him like a mid first rounder plus, fine.

Saad is still young, relatively healthy and should be able to contribute well into the current rebuild.

If he sticks around. He played hard ball with the team once forcing the trade to Columbus. Yes, economically, things are different now, but no guarantees he won't test the market next off season when he is an UFA.

Has Seabrook, Matta, DaHaan, and Shaw been bought out yet today? Today starts the buyout window.

I think Bowman screwed up the direction of this team. The last few years his goal should have been to shed salary to create cap space. Trading for DE Haan ,Maata etc was a mistake especially considering the term they have on their contracts.
If the Hawks had cap space right now they could be taking advantage of teams that are desperate to shed salaries.
Dach and Boquist should not have been on the club and an extra year ELC would be very valuable.
Murphy and Saad are the only assets the Hawks have that could be used to get decent futures (draft picks, prospects)
Hopefully Bowman now knows this team is a long way out and stops trying to add players who will not help out long term.

Ooops. anyway both Seabrook, Shaw and Smith would have to be OK to play, as you cannot buy out a player on LTIR.

Do we know what McDonough/ownership was telling Stan? I never saw a open letter in the newspaper (like the Rangers did), saying we are rebuilding, and please stick with us. Was it Bowman who solely concluded about rebuilding/retooling on the fly? Do you think Toews and Kane's salary were not OK'd by upper management?

Do we know if Stan is under an internal salary cap now? There are several teams that are going to have internal caps thrust upon the GM's throat, and I would gather there are going to be some real befuddling trades, contracts, buyouts that make sense only in a teams budgetary constraints.

I just don't think the management can let Toews, Kane, and Kieth on an island and start a full mismantel where I like the idea of youth moment(s).

They have to try and keep wining, and making movs that get them in the playoffs, because the league isn't gaping to gift them in next year.

Yep, and when fans are finally allowed in to games, they need something to want to come back to, especially those corporations to gobble up those suites.

If McD was influencing Stan behind the scenes to do the rebuild on the fly, and since he is no longer around, then this off season should tell us a lot. If more rebuild on the fly, you can't point the finger at McD (unless Danny Wirtz has the same mindset).

Capfriendly has an interesting feature if anyone isn't aware. In addition to a team's cap hit, it also shows the actual salary payout for the season. The Hawks as of now have a cap hit almost 74M but are only paying out 57.5M in actual dollars. With the moves that have to be made to sign the RFA'a and a goalie, I see the total salary being paid out in the low 70'sM.

I doubt Seabrook going anywhere...Everyone else is great possibility however I do recall Shaw saying that he will be back playing this year. I'm just wondering where and why play considering his overall health with a young family and all.

Fleury stating he wants to stay in Vegas. If they want to sign Lehner, they will have to buy out Fleury, which is still a $2.5 mil. hit for 4 years to Vegas. I knew Alan Walsh would not make it easy on Vegas.

If they were going to use all the Wirtz money would they be laying people off in the office? I will believe buyouts when I see them.

Wirtz has enough money so I highly doubt anyone getting laid off. I believe buyouts this season will be more strategic regarding teams cap situation and becoming cap compliant.

NO ONE has enough money - especially those who HAVE money. Never enough.

I think the Blackhawks either laid off or furloughed some. Cubs dropped 60 business side employees - and the Rickets have more than the Wirtz.
