I am still high on Khusnutdinov but have soured a bit on taking him as high as #17.

Holloway would be fine with me.

Hawks could retain money and get another asset back on top of the 1st round pick say retain 2 million maybe gain a prospect or mid round pick also.

I don’t think Saad is going to get more than $5.5M/yr in this market, not with a stale cap. If this is the case then why trade him? Although there’s no comparison in talent between Saad and Hossa, he is the closest that we have to Hossa’s two way game. It is imperative that our young forwards develop a good two way game, and watching Saad will be very beneficial for them. sign Saad for $5.5/6 years, we will never get back what he’s really worth.

Holloway is a very good pick, while I would be fine with this selection my preference would be to draft Amirov.

The point i'm making is saad part of the hawks long term plans going forward if not trade him and can the hawks afford giving him a long term contract between 5 and 6 million imo no then trade him now and get as much as you can. Same applies to Murphy and strome.

No rule against trading Saad now for assets than resigning him next year as an UFA assuming he wants to come back to Chicago.

Also if you don't trade him and if he wants to test the market next year albeit for only 4-5M and walks after getting a better offer in terms of length of contract, salary, NMC or not, etc you lose him for nothing.

Anyone know when his M-NTC kicks in? Its so weird that in a normal year, we would be in the heart of camp/pre-season.

I read where the next "league year" begins I think Oct 9. That's the equivalent of the old July 1 league year start. I assume that's when Saad's M-NTC begins.

I would think that if the Hawks do select a college player like Holloway, they want him to mature and gain experience at the college level for a year or two. I guess he can turn pro and sign an ELC contract and go to the AHL, but is that league going to resume play?

I agree with you the Holloway pick. Hawks need to get bigger and Holloway's playing style has been compared to Blake Wheeler. Having him and Dach on same line would be nice for years to come

Some college players are going to Europe. The Blackhawks have a prospect Parker Foo (Union College) who signed last week with the Kunlun Red Stars in the KHL.

Then there are college players who still have rights with junior teams. For instance, Cole Caufield could play back in juniors with Sault Ste. Marie.

I don't think the Hawks are in the right situation to take a gamble so I expect they will take the safer pick (Holloway/Zary) than the gamble (Khusnutdinov).

I wasn't necessarily saying that he might fall to the Hawks 2nd, but to the 2nd round overall. It doesn't seem like he has quite as much fanfare as ADB or Caufield and thus would push him down a bit. He seems to have a much different overall game, so there is that as well.

They leave college to go play in Europe. Same as if thy sign a pro contract anywhere, they give up their college eligibility.

No rule whatsoever, I’m just not sure that you will get back what he’s worth to the Hawks in a trade, and that he will come back as a UFA if traded by Hawks. Every and any player can be traded, just need the right return.

I would not say that Suter has grit or sandpaper. He is very smart and is always in the right spot. He has enough strength to not get thrown around, but is not bruising himself either.

The line you noted would be very interesting, simply because of the strengths of the players (and assuming Dach takes the next step).

I think you are going toes some grit and push back form Pius Suter; he wants to stay, make a place in the bigs so you probably get a good effort on all fronts.

Dark horse choice for the Hawks. Can't recall which poster mentioned him, but William Wallander is a pure boom or bust pick. He is very raw but uber talented.

Yeah, I int to squeeze him out of my first round, only because I think nk there are several forwards that are going to do better, but we all know there is going to be. team or two drafting for need, sad/surpised the defender they were going to pick that they were sure was going to be there is gone, and his got a big frame, some toolbox, so they probably call his name...
